Well I started restoring another FL250. This is going to be my first Yellow one. This one looks real bad but the frame is solid. Good bearings and bushings with clean bumper and skid plate. I ordered a host of new parts for this. I am also doing the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) conversion as well. DG pipe with DG head and 32mm Mikuni carb with Mossburger intake. Comet driven with Powerbloc clutch. (hoser do you still work on Powerblocs?) I do not like the added roll bars to the yellow Ody's. I am going back to open cage. Trying to make this thing original as I can.

Here is a list of parts I orderd as of today.

Magneto
Stator
CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) box
CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) Coil
New seals
New brake pads
New throttle cable
New brake cable
New seat covers
New brake shoes
New belt
New few filter
New recoil rope
New headlight
New decal kit
Brand spanking new wire harness from head to toe. (going to be sweet plug and play)
POR15 6 pack of pints, Marine Clean and Medal Ready.

I am using parts from 3 FL250's to get the best parts. All the seat pans were bad so I am using stainless on the bottoms to beef them up. I had to use another pan from the doner ody's though.

Anyway here is some pics. I have a lot of them so my take a few post. I will mix in some of my other Fl250's I did over the last year or so.

Yah me too. It's got an Cammex Racing Products Engine. This was an class 3 racer I think. Full suspension modified FL250's. This was my first Ody. It will be restored one of these days. I keep getting other projects and putting it off. I did get to the radiator though. I found a LT250 suzuki radiator I thought looked like the one that was originaly on it.

It does run and run well. I was told about 50hp or so. It's an 360cc Cammex with sick hand made pipe. Here is some shots of the radiator work I did. The first shot shows what was on it when I got it. It was never ran though. Big steel bars welded to the frame. The last few pics are from an 80's three wheeler mag showing another racer pretty much just like mine. I been told I have a part of Odyssey racing history. The Engine is a fl250 bottom end. Cammex machined the cases to fit the cammex Jug and head. Many people also told me this should be a screaming Engine.

Here is it the day I got it. I have only drove it a few times up and down my street. I was worried about that cheasy radiator.

The Engine, It has a moved over Comet Driven clutch putting it in the middle of the buggy with a Powerbloc primary clutch. Works and Ohlins shocks. Challenger J-Ams and tie rods.

Notice how the driven clutch is now in the middle of the frame. It also has the 7" driven clutch. I guess that gives you a higher top speed than the stock 9".

Hoser I ride in Oregon. We got some sand dunes close by Portland but have not taken any of them out yet. We go camping one week a year and ride all these toys and other vintage stuff I have. Mostly just small ATC and enduros. Old stuff but we have a blast camping.

Picked up another one last friday. This one has newer black fenders and electric start. Both will be used in this build. As well as the rear tires. The CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) stuff,fenders and Electric start was the value for me.

Got to switch the clutch on the tranny and the redo the seals. Then I will be ready for POR15 paint prep.

Getting the basic little stuff out of the way tonight. I got the seat covers stripped off and the Battery box mount made up.

Ody seats rust pretty bad. Most you find have rust pretty bad. I was suprised to see the seat spring tabs were still on the seat pan. Most the time these are rusted off. POR15 should take care of this seat.

The CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) and points coil are the same size but have different mounts. This is a points frame so I needed to make a CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) coil mount. I used an old points coil and grinded the rivits off to take out the old coil. I then slid the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) coil into the old points bracket. This lets me use the same mount that's already on the frame. The CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) and points coil are the same size.

Also made the mount for the battery box. I do not have the battery box made yet. But this will let me move on to paint prep now. And just make the battery box later and bolt it on. The last pics is from my last Ody restore it shows what it will look like when done.

I will look later tonight for a number. You do know that is the 7" driven clutch right? Not sure if that effects belt size or not. Just something to consider though. I quess the 7" clutch gives you more top speed.

Getting a little bit done each night. Stripping all the paint off so I can get the parts outside in the rain to rust for POR15 prep. A light surface rust is perfect for POR15 needs some rust for the super strong finish. You can see what I am doing on the frame. I clean the paint off then let it sit in the rain to rust. This gives you the bond that POR15 likes. Crazy and ass backwards I know. But it will be rock solid paint job when done right like this. POR15 does not like shinny new metal. It needs lots of tooth.

Well I got 90% cleaned and ready for paint. Now the fun starts for me. Cleaning these parts took me longer than I thought. I am painting next weekend. And start putting in all back next week.

I ran out of wire wheels so I have to pick up some more and finish the front of the frame.

I got the POR15 Marine Clean amd metal ready done today. I will paint tomorrow. Notice how you see the chalky white in the pics. This is the Metal Ready turing the rust into zink coating and etching the steel.

Also notice how good Marine Clean cleaned the frame. I degreased with other degreasers first to save on Marine Clean. One shot of Marine Clean and it got what Purple Power missed. Great stuff.

All these parts will be painted with two coats amd only uding one pint of POR15.

Spent the day painting with POR15

I put two coats on all these parts with only one pint of POR15. Had a tiny bit left over as well. Do not get any on you. It will take two weeks to come off. I painted these parts with a brush. POR15 self levels and you will see no brush marks. Chemical resistant from brake fluid to even paint stripper. Super hard to chip and rock tuff. I got some runs but that's okay.

If you are ever at a car show and the POR15 booth is there go check them out. They will have a plate of steel on the table with a hammer and screw driver. They reps will ask you to try to chip or even scratch thru the POR15 with a hammer and screwdriver. This truly is one tuff paint if done right. Bumpers and nerfbars will take the abuse.

The best thing I like about por15 is how easy the mud washes off. It's like washing your kitchen sick. POR15 is so non porus that even stripper cannot get into it. IDK for some reason the mud washes right off easy.

All the parts are dry so the fun starts. Still need to restore and detail the reduction unit this week. Also detail the Engine and paint the wheels.
