To do a CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) conversion you will need:

81 to 84 Stator
81 to 84 Magneto
81 to 84 CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) Box
81 to 84 Coil
81 to 84 wire harness
You will need to fab a bracket to hold your coil and CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) box. Below is a vid on how I did mine.

If you have points your lights will be 6 volt and not 12 volt like the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) is. 1980 had a 12v poits system though. All conversion parts will need to be from 81 to 84 or they will not work. You can find cheap ATC110 wire harness on ebay that has the same plug for the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) box. If you have that plug you can wire that into your older points system if you know what your doing. I find it easy to just change the harnest. If you do change the harness you have to figure out the switches in the wheel cover. For the newer models have a lo-hi switch. The olders models just have on-off only. Easy fix just something you will run into.

How much did this upgrade run you? I am buying an odyssey this week and curious how big of difference the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) vs the point system is performance wise. Was it hard found all the parts you needed? Thanks

I never had one with points. I have always switched to CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition). I just hate points. If you shop well it will be about $300 or so. All parts are on ebay but you have to shop well and fast. Some sellers will ask for your arm. Some sellers are lots cheaper.

Here is some pics how I used the 6v old style coil for a bracket to hold the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) coil. Just grind the rivits and take the old coil out. Weld the two parts togather and you got a bracket to hold the new coil. Do this if you have a bad coil. If your old coil good then save it or sell it. It's easy to just make a bracket as well. The pic shows a complete 6v coil. And the other pics shows what the bracket looks like with the coil cut out. As you can see the 12 volt coil slides right in.

And a stator and magneto I been watching. Not bidding just watching the price. ATC110 CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) boxes are the same part number. They go cheaper as well. The coils for the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) ATC110 will also work.

If your handy with points than stick with it. I just like the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) so much better.

Yah stator and magneto are the number one thing to shop well on.

I have been able to find basket case Odys for sale for like $200. This is how I get most my CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) conversion parts. I bought and Engine on CL for $150that had the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) stuff as well. The Engine was so so but the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) stuff was great so I did not care. Just shop well or it can get spindy fast.

CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) stator will have 4 wires. the points stator will have 2 wires. Alwayss check wires for some sellers have no clue what years fit what years. I like to buy a CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) wire harness for it's just plug and play.
