Has anyone ever used this product? I am wanting to exdent the range of my Chevy one tone while towing my toyhauler. I have a 52 gallon tank I bought cheap, and want to have this setup. I don't want to stop and fill the tank while I am on the side of the road, but want this to steadily fill my OEM tank. This is a gas powered truck, I don't see why this say's diesel only???

I never seen one before but I like the idea, haven't noticed lately but on past trips I have seen gas prices vary as much as .30 a gallon so like to top off so I don't have to pay that extra .30 :-)

I am still trying to find a 100+ gallon tank off a semi to mount where the stock tank is on the bus, 150 gallon would be ideal, I lose about 40 min each time I stop for gas at a station.

Turbo,

Do you have smog inspections in Texas yet?

If you do and you plumb the tank in the bed into your stock tank you won't pass inspection. You can use the tank as a transfer tank with a pump to fill your tank (you can't say that though, it's technically only allowed to fill OTHER vehicles).

Once you connect it to your stock tank the entire evap system is compromised and you'd have to upsize everything, lines, charcoal canister, everything with proof it's large enough. That is unlikely so your best bet would be to call it a transfer tank. That may be why it says diesel only, filling it with gasoline may not be legal, I don't know.

If you don't have inspections then it's not an issue.

I had to do all of the evap system upgrades when I added a second stock tank to my monster Toyota back in '89-'90, but probably couldn't get away with it now since all smog inspections in Calif are video'd and registered electronically with the state.

I needed to extend my range since my favorite haunt back then was deep into the Mojave with the nearest paved road 35-40 miles away and the nearest gas station was 70-90 miles away and we would drive 500+ miles off-road during the course of a week, so taking 3-4 hours to go fill up wasn't an option and the longer we could go between filling with 5 gallon cans the better, but we still carried 20-30 gallons in cans.

No evap required for diesels. Since it is over 50 gals. now it has to be placarded, haz mat. license. etc. I would not directly plumb it to the gas tank and let gravity do its thing. I could see it overfilling the tank and creating a problem. I would use an electrically activated switch to either gravity feed through a solenoid valve or run a small transfer pump so that you can add fuel when needed, but still use the T adapter at the filler neck so you don't have to get out of the truck. What year is the pick up truck? Early 90's won't have evap pressure sensors so you could do it without tripping a check Engine light. If you have an evap pressure sensor, then use the solenoid valve to close off the fuel line to your aux. tank. Make sense?

OK As of now we have no Smog in Texas, at least here in the country... BUT I don't want to chase down a check Engine light either???
The way this fitting is supposed to work from what I can see is it has a backflow preventer above the fitting from teh aux tank... so in theory it isn't supposed to go over that... I would also want to put a manual, and or flip switch both at the battom of this tank and one inside the cab if possible... that way I could shut it off and use a transfer pump for when I am out playing... something to fill the toys with... the cap on the tank is self venting
The truck is a 1998 chevy 350 vortec Engine...
And from what I remember of Hazmat laws if it is an auxillary tank and used to power the truck no placards required, plus it is still under the 1000 pounds so no placard required...
