Noise levels !!

This is one of my biggest pet peeve.
I used to race cars starting way back in 1977. Back then our local race track was way off on the top of a mountain and in the bush. There was no restriction on noise. Soon the big city slowly expanded and now people started to complain about the noise.
F U Goof !! You knew the track was here since the early 50's.
Then the rules said we had to have mufflers. Then the rules said we had to meet a certain db level. At the time it was 105 db at Westwood raceway in Vancouver BC.
In the states a similar thing happened. At Seattle we had to be 103 db and Portland 95 db I think.
The problem for me was that I raced a rotary Engine car. These are actually two strokes.
I purchased a noise meter from Radio Shack and used it to experiment with different mufflers, including home made ones. I checked my readings with the clubs meter and it was spot on. All club meter readings were posted on the info board at the track.
What I found out was that in order to meet the db requirement you had to choke down that two stroke. End result was some loss of power. I don't think you can get away from those physics. A two stroke needs to breath.

All true CO. I will tell that to the forest ranger or game warden. I'll say according to CO or Canada.

Just kidding.

Second sound run and I see a few things that interest me. I knew of them however it nice to see in a real world example.

Here is the atvr non spark arrested.

I see a problem there already adnoh.
When I was racing the noise meter had to be a specific distance from the muffler.
At the track the noise meter was located right at the edge of the pavement at the end of the straight away.
It looks like your meter is gona be right next to your machine.
What distance does the terrorist state use to measure your violations ??
What rpm ??

I always do the eye candy myself and go back and read so do not feel bad. Have cold one and laugh.

Here is a pdf of how they test in the USA.
Interestingly they show the Honda Pilot but not the FL350.
So does that mean I get a pass ?? LOL.
I've been down this road many times at the race track. Many battles.

Well I looked it up, thanks for the pdf.
I will need to retest and see if the 340 rpm has an effect.
According to the pdf instead 200000 you use
237000.

I agree on exempt for fl 350 unless they use the described method. Plus your in canada. With the right amount of cold ones and how fast the mounties horses is. Your most likely ok.

I took a another pic where it has no number on another page.

Well I went back and read the book again.
Looks to me the forest service has two standards or they did not do the work right to get rpm.

Sorry to say the ody was listed.

Well I read it again. I measured from the wrong direction. I set up 45 deg to the back side. It's 45 deg after away for end of tail pipe.
Data is flawed.

So cold ones for me and try again.

I think your testing is still wrong.
The only sound reflection is suppose to be from the ground.
You got your phone sitting on a board.
The phone must be on a tripod.
