I got this off Ebay for 3K even in Denver. It is a 74 Dodge Charger, same car I drove in High School. It is a Ralley(R/T) big block, 4 speed, posi trac w/sway bars, and very rare factory sun roof car. The car currently has a built 440 with an automatic tranny. Man it really pulls hard but I need to get plates so I can get it on some pavement. Drakman went with me to look at it before the auction ended. Looks kinda rough from a primer sanding job but it actually is solid and straight with a couple of "Chevypox" spots that will need attention. All the trim, chrome, mirrors, interior panels, marker lenses, etc are in the trunk. It is missing the gas tank. The car was parked in a garage for the last 8-10 years. I have already picked up some folding/hidden headlight grills for it and a 6-71 blower with dual carbs for a major Engine build next spring when it gets the full pro-street look. I am going to concentrate on body/paint and interior this year. Right now I think it is going to be black. I may have to sell off some 350s and parts to help with this money pit. lol

Nice score, I want a ride when you get it done, your not going to butcher the original hood when you install the blower are you?

I have already found another flat hood to cut into, no worries. I will have to spend a few pennies to make a bottom end that will hold up to 750ft/lbs trq. Go for a ride...Hell, I'll let you drive it! It will be hard to get the smile off your face.

Nice to see another Mopar fan on the site.

Most information in articles found online state that the Rallye option was dropped at the end of the 1973 production line.
Its debated regularly weather or not that some models made it out of the factory with the option in 1974. Are you sure that it is a Rallye optioned car?

I have documentation from Chrysler showing that only 97 were built with the option in 1974 but have not been able to verify that.

Do you have the fender tag or build sheet?

I have the build sheet, but it was very brittle so I laminated it. Probably a bad thing but it will not get any worse. I have some better pictures of it at home and will post them later. I found a real cool fender tag decoder somewhere on the web and it stated that the car was a Ralley by one of the numer codes. I printed it and can show you where later when I get home. Here are some of the original ebay pictures...

I was told by several people on the Mopar boards that this car is EXTREMELY rare because of the options, maybe even less than 1 of 10 built and that I should put it back to original and not pro-street it. The original color was a bronze/metallic brown...ick!!!! I got some time to think it thru I guess. If I can find another roller one some where cheap, I will do just that.

Found another website that said that fender code A57 is a Ralley on 72-74 Chargers. Mine has A57 about center just above the 000.

Thanks guys!

From what I have figured out so far... they made 29,101 Charger hardtops(WH23) in 1974 and of those they made 105 Ralleys. Also out of the 29,101, only 520 were 400 HP engines and of those 520, 115 were 4 speeds. I cant find how many of the 105 Ralleys were powered with the 400HP/4 speed HD not to mention the super rare sun roof option. Maybe 1 of 10 or less I would bet.

Nice. I seen a show where the poped a hole in the hood and they had to take into account that the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) is offset in the chassie to one side. If I see the show again I'll post up the link so you can see what they did. The guy was a pro out of calaforina they brought in just to do the hood.

I bet your gona try to put that blower in the ody some how arn't ya.

Don't tempt me LMAO. Honestly, I did think pretty hard about a streetbike turbo setup but I always come up with a bad ending to the Engine with jetting nightmares. The Alaska guy did a real nice job on his turbo Pilot 800cc setup.

G'Day Gazza, nice ugly ducklin' ya got there Mate!
You say the SAME car as you drove in school,or the same TYPE?
Methinks it IS the very same school car!
You bein' so cheap and thrifty,I bet ya been storin' it at one of those Nukem Silos all these years,
just waitin' to bust it out for your 2nd childhood phase, what? :-)

We had an Aussie version here as well, smaller but still a spunky lookin' car.
I still remember the TV ads catchcry from back in the early 70's,"Hey Charger" with the 2 finger V saluit to the driver.
Ours had the lil' ducktale boot edge.

Here's some info,bout 3/4 down the page.

Good luck with it...Baz :-)

G' Day Baz, how you been. Same type I guess I should have said. What I store in my nuc silos is my business mate...LOL

Those are some very different looking Chargers...looks like some wiseguy put the steering wheels on wrong side, what a joker. What kinda cars were in MadMax? They had a similar body line if I remember right.

Gary, er I mean...Gazza :-)

You would have to have the most powerfully protected, secret men's business toys silos in the world, what?
Most people just have an alarm,or a but ugly dog? :-)
We have similar perception on the bodylines,as I thought of the Ford Falcon XA,XB's flanks looked similar as well.
Yes the same models as MadMax's.My bro had a Canary Yellow XB GT coupe with the 351,tough lookin' cars.

The steering wheel thing?.....It's all done by mirrors Mate! :-)

very nice score indeed. I know a guy locally who just got a 74 charger as well, kinda strange .... i have always wanted one myself but those old muscle cars go for so much these days. I got traded a 59 jaguar project car for some web work I did for a friend, think i'll butcher that thing up and learn some before I hunt down something too nice that I may ruin.
