Getting close huh? Are those steering column shields aluminum? I’m going to replace one of the broken up plastic foot-tubs with one I’ve picked up made from diamond plate. But that one made from diamond plate has no shields, figured I would just cut some aluminum to fit, what gauge did you use?

Nope on the getting close. A lot more to do -- a lot more. Still will have to take half the machine apart again to paint bolts black.

Steering column shields are not aluminum. They are 20 gauge (I believe) steel.

I think the metal foot tubs people build for these machines are a good replacement. Right after my first complete rebuild and on our first ride a stick went right through the plastic tub and came up between my feet. I was FN mad. We weren't even going fast but were in a rough area just logged and there were a bunch of branches laying around the area. If you look at my machines you will see aluminum plates mounted to the bottom of the oddy seats. There is a reason for that. Unless you want a stick, rock up the chute. Everyone needs to shield the bottom of the seat as well. Just my opinion.

Getting closer.
Still have to: Make a gas tank, make shock savers, vent mod, mount water pump, some electrical, plumbing, bleed brakes, paint all the bolts for the cage, skid plate hidden hitch, seat belts (buy), wrist restraints (buy), side skirting, death head shifter knob if I can find one.

Probably spend tomorrow making a gas tank.

Looks great! Don't know what water pump you're using. I used a Bosch I believe be out of BMW. 33 bucks with rubber mount bracket. Used bracket and here's couple pics how I mounted it.

Yup that's what I use on my machines as well.

It won't be anything fancy and will fit in the original position. It's made out of 16 gauge. I think right now that it is a bit thick but that's what I bought.
Started on the tank last night and screwed up. I made it 6" wide instead of 5 1/2" wide. Now I gota start over.

I don't like it but that's what came with the spare machine I bought.
You sit a bit square instead of layed back like the oddy original seat. Also had to butcher the seat frame to get it all in there. It is 1 1/2" taller than the stock seat but I actually have a gel cushion in my machine that I sit on, so the height is the same.
I did look into getting a seat and tank from a member here who offered but the shipping cost to Canada was not worth it.
P.S. thx jspinner

If you crash hard it still won't save you.
Basically I hydraulic my spine during that big crash. Nothing will save you from physics.

Gona try to fix my boo boo on this tank tonight but I do have questions if anyone can answer them.
1) Do you think the oil in the fuel will prevent the tank from rusting ??
2) Would you coat the inside of the tank to prevent rust and if so what is used ??

Tank is just standard mild steel 16 gauge.

Looking good. The oil will help with rust but above the fuel level it may rust after sitting a bit. If stored with a full fuel tank I think u would be safe.
I know they make gas tank lining but I have no experience with it.

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllll --- the gas tank is proving to be a real challenge.
Have tried a total of three sizes and shapes. Something always in the way.
Am trying to make this simple but it don't look like that can happen.
You are very limited in space and you need 4 gallons minimum.
I thought about getting plastic tanks and then using a heat gun to form the side of the tank for what ever may be in the way but no one seems to make anything close. Tried jegs, jcwhittney, Pegasus racing, walmart, Canadian tire, boating supplies, RV tanks, race car fuel cells, scepter, RotopaX.
It's a very odd small fuel tank.
It's really holding up the completion of this project as everything else is fabbed up and ready to go.
Right now I am thinking about what one of the ozzies did and put the fuel tank at the very back of the machine.

Got a couple of questions, well comments really. 1, what no spike coming out of helmet. 2, no replacement for physics, not necessarily true. 3, wise man told me once. card board and duck tape cheaper than steel.
Any way looks good, keep on hacking.

1) No spike: because I thought practicality over authenticity
2) No replacement for physics, not necessarily true: I think you may be right there, some brain cells now have limited function due to age. Brain cell 20 -- Body 58.
3) Card board & duct tape: I only had one pizza box laying around so I just did it with a tape measure. Guess how that worked out ??

Well still working on the fuel tank but I think I figured it out.
I had tunnel vision. That's a tough sickness to over come.
I thought you build a box and fit it. Nope.
You first have to build the outside profile and then weld the sides on later. I was trying to do it the other way around. Went to machine shop yesterday and got some iron. Stressed that little bender I got for sure and scratched the hell out of the paint. Had to un-bend and re-bend a couple times LOL. Did it with a tape measure again.
One thing I did find out is the importance of that little corner under the muffler. It MUST be put in.
As you see it there, the calculated fuel volume is 3.82 gal USA.
I'll post more details and measurements later.

Progress below.

Looking good to me. Guess we're wired similar as I would have started off the same way.

Have you allowed for your axle suspension movement?

Actually I just did that tonight. Removed the spring and pushed the wheel up. I'm good.
Yeah I was a little bit concerned about that during the build but I did look at my other machines. The bottom of the fuel tank must not be below a certain point on the gearbox. About 3/4" to 1" above. You can see it in that last picture.

In my opinion if I had to do this again I would pass. It's involved. Think I would do what you Aussies did and put the tank at the back. Then you could make it any size you want and it's a five minute job. I do not like those tanks guys put high above the Engine. They look stupid, make the machine top heavy, most stick out the end of the cage, and it's a fire hazard. If you get into a crash like I had, well I'm sorry but your in trouble. I have been on fire in a race car before. I pass.

I have been screwing with this thing for weeks and I am no where near finished it, and I still don't really have a good idea for the filler spout. I did go to the wrecking yard and get a cap and spigot from a wrecked car, but that is some kind of galvanized or aluminized crap. Don't know if I can use it. And I still have to pressure test it.

Sounds like u just need a little encouragement.
If it was easy it wouldn't be so cool and everyone would build there own.
I think it's going well and would hate for ya to throw in the towel now.

I'm sure have seem this. I like the filler cap. It's also aluminum so you don't have worry about rust.

Looks like the filler cap just bolts on.
