Post subject:  Time to fix up a pilot wheel.
Got my pilot wheel. Want to make it nice before I install it. Going to disassemble and paint it. Want to replace sight glasses.(anyone done this? How do I do it and where do I get the sight glasses?) would also like to eliminate the center 3 dummy lights.(parking brake, neutral, reverse) what kind of filler can I use on plastic? Does anyone have any tips on doing a good job that will last. I plan on painting it with Krylon plastic paint when I'm done so color doesn't matter. I'll do the nukem fuel light mod and use that light and ill set the temp light up also. Guess its also time to do the thermoswitch for the fan to. Losing the extra switch I had on the 350 wheel. Thanks

Can't you just paint over the lenses your not going to use?

Heres a trick for the site glass. Take some 320 grit sand paper and sand them then go get some clear 2 part epoxy and put a layer of it over the lens and let it dry. 1 side at a time and keep that side flat. What it will do is bond with the old site glass and be smoothe strong and clear again. Have done it a bunch of times.

The colored lenses can also be reworked just as Rusty mentioned except no sand paper. A clear coat over the top of them will make them look all shinny and new!

I think I'm gonna have a go at replacing them. I don't want to risk having a leak and eating my plastics. I know I won't use them but I want it to look as new as they're quite visible. I'll post pics of the project as I get around to doing it. Thanks

It's the glass and 2 new screws to replace the Philips heads on the reservoir lid. I think he said the are Allen head to prevent stripping.

Got me sight glasses and lids coming. Will be getting into this project soon. Can I rattle can in cold temps if I bring the stuff inside as soon as I'm done? Would make sure the part and paint are at room temperature. Go out to spray and bring right back in. Would that be ok?

Started on this tonight. Stripped the wheel down. Cant get the big Philips head screw that hold the master cylinders out. Started on removal of the sight glasses. That's a bitch. Think I'm realizing I need glasses also. Heads starting to hurt so I gave up for the night. Just need to clean up the holes a little bit. Will do more tomorrow.

The amount of control they designed into such a small package is awesome!

I like the idea of it. I rode Denuch's pilot and man do the brakes feel so much better. I'm assuming I'll get that same feel on my odyssey now. That makes me happy. Got the taillight switches on the shell to. Got to figure out how to make that work. Usually this swap makes the run switch backwards. The off/run/off is backwards. I have a spare 350 run switch here. Hoping they'll swap right out and I can get it to work as stock

how far u got on tearing it apart?


It's completely stripped except taking the master off the wheel. Probably going to leave them alone. They're wanting to strip.

now you need to make an LT front end and U'll stop on a dime :-)

can you grab the head of it with an vise grip?
that's what i do if an phillips head starts stripping out

I've always had the best luck with an impact driver on those cross point screws.

I don't think I need long travel. If I did do it I'd keep the 350 spindles and brakes. Drum brakes stop my semi. I believe adjusted and bled right they'll lock the front up. The screw heads don't stick out. Bullnerd I called my dad to ask what he thought and he said bring it over tomorrow and try that. I don't have an impact driver here. Very basic tools at my apt.
