who better to ask than the guys who ride these things every day :)

I have my modified fl250 oddy- I bought a formula ski-doo with a 520cc rotax twin...
I was going to do the fab work and swap in the rotax but...

the guys over at atvc think I'm destined for the grave or a wheelchair.

The 520 has between 80 - 90 hp- thinking that's a bit bunch for a SRA oddy and the stock chain driven gear case?
and even with the modified rollcage. it'll probably be too much without a rear susp?
I just pulled the rotax out of the sled last night- looks like it'll fit nicely.... your opinions?

if it's too much- anyone want to buy a liquid cooled good running rotax with all the gear? :(

That is a lot of Engine for the 250... Will it be fun? Absolutely! Will you toast the transmission? I never had a 250 Odyssey.... But I have read about the chain breaking under heavy load in the trans... I hope I have that recalled correctly.. The 250 trans had a chain didn't it?
The swap would be good practice for the next swap... Once you do one there will be others for certain...
I think there was a guy on the forum that installed a larger chain inhis 250 trans... The more I type the more I remember or fabricate memory... Lol

Looks like you have a start

Putting pod filters on them carbs will ensure a really short Engine life regardless of the filter used so save all your 250 stuff so you can convert back when your Engine turns to junk.

Inlets to them carbs are in the second worse location you could install them next worse would be right behind the rear tires at about ground level.

Plan on ducting air from up high like Honda did where the air is cleaner.

I say do the swap and get some taller tires for more balloon suspension lol. Do like Hoser said, run hoses up from your carbs to a higher point away from the dirty air that is lower. Maybe even make a airbox for it with a pre-filter design.

Good luck, keep us posted!

lol- the older I get the more memories I make up also ;)
I may fool the kids, but my wife just rolls her eyes :)

It's a guarantee the chain (and other things) will break.

this guys fl250 has a 440 yamaha in it- and it just wheelies lol- can't imagine what mine would do with a 520 rotax!

skip to 1:30 ;)

I do have 26" tires I could swam out on it- I'd be worried about the high center tho- hmmmm
I'm really oin the fence about it- I'd have to lengthen the fram by about 4" to gain some pipe / seat clearance...

or I could just put the stock 250 back in it- but that's no fun... :/

Hoser that is a great comment, do you know how many off road race cars have the air filter behind the tires LAUGH OUT LOUD it is completly unreal to me then they buy a scoop that forces the dirt into the air cleaner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
