The Polaris 500 ho is too underpowered to push an Ody.

I have a friend who owns three of them and the Ody will leave him sitting in the dust. I just don't think the 500 4 poke has enough power to be a good performance swap.

One of our group has a 500 Sportsman Engine in his buggy, which is heavier than an Oddy , and it runs with us on the trails and roads just fine. And has hit 60mph on gps. It has a Scrambler FNR box which is 3:1, and a 3:1 chain reduction to the rear. A little less than the Oddy 10:1, but not far off. I's like to see a swap completed in an Oddy.

The third buggy at the end of this vid is the 500 powered machine. Go to 1:12.

I never did get out to my customers place to get some video, this was a one off for me as engines are too expensive and hard to find. My customer is happy with it as it was for his son. If your riding in wide open spaces and want a screamer this is not for you but if your riding in the woods or it for your kids I would go for the polaris over the rotax

i believe you can use a Polaris Predator 500 Carburetor Carb Intake Boot Manifold and you wont have to make a adapter for the carb

I'm wondering if this actually works at all. I'm a dumbass and bought the mount as soon as I saw one done. Then the ride video the designer promised never showed and it got removed from his website. Pretty sure I bought a boat anchor. Live and learn. Until I see one working I can't believe otherwise. More than one have been built for sure but I've never seen one functioning. I'm sure not buying a $1000+ Engine to find out. Buyer beware.

Rand Wonder if it has enough power to be a general use trail machine, I know I would never be happy with anything less than stock HP, performance, speed etc. in my Pilot I could never go back to anything less than a full modified Pilot Engine. If a guy did a lot of tight trails where stock Pilots and Odysseys has no problem keeping up with full mod Pilots and Odysseys then this Engine might be what some are looking for. I know I have been to plenty of ride areas and rode where I could have installed a 18hp briggs and stratton Engine in my Pilot and done just fine riding with the Pilot Odyssey group, my full mod Engine was a complete waste on them trails.

There was a guy on MBN years ago that I asked about this swap. He had done one and said it ran great and was reliable....but it was for his wife. Pretty sure, but not posative, he said it was slower than his stock one.

With the way the power comes on with the Polaris Sportsman 500HO it would probably great for tight trail woods riding with speeds under 20mph. Out here in northern Nevada, there is no tight woods riding as the terrain is mostly fire roads or sand dunes. I spend most of my time alternating between full throttle and idle! Out at Walker River Resort, I managed to do pull off a three mile stretch at full throttle without ever letting off. It can get a bit hairy drifting around curves at 64.1 mph! Rand

Yeah a bit tight, it was built for him when he was 14. Now 18 he has grown just a tad . He says he is still comfortable in it. This was the first day out with my Oddy, which is stretched 6", back wheels are lined up. I could link you to a build thread on another site if that is allowed. But it is from before the 500 was installed.

Yeah you can link to other sites. The Odyssey was stretched 6" or the buggy was made 6" longer than a Odyssey?

I never did get out to my customers place to get some video, this was a one off for me as engines are too expensive and hard to find. My customer is happy with it as it was for his son. So it works good? I'm not worried about slow. I was worried about not working at all. Slow and quiet would be just fine for Mary.
