Spent the weekend at Winchester Bay, OR, and had a great time. As usual, the Pilot ran amazingly. But the Drakart, not so much. The CV joint decided to explode and create a big, greasy, ugly mess. You can see the aftermath in the pics. Not very happy. Made for a shorter weekend then intended, and getting the drakart back onto the trailer wasn't very fun. Can any Drakart owners let me know where to find a new axle? It isnt plunging at all. I was trying to source the Audi 100 series Inner and Outer CV joint but none had the plunging axle part. I tried calling Alain, but have had no help there. Also this Geo Crappo Engine is boring! I have the 583 RAVE Engine still and was wondering if it would be hard to transplant that into the Drakart?

What do you need exactly? The inner CV, the outer CV or the actual axle, the CV's are fairly easy to come by. I would definitely recommend you look for Lobro brand CV's they are much better quality than the Chinese made Empi. The inner CV you will have to make up yourself by cutting the male section off a std Audi 100 CV and welding on the mounting flange. The axles are a pain, Alain used a tooth form that has a radius at the tooth root and finding someone with the appropriate hob to cut them is a pain. Anyone here know who made the originals? I am talking about the Audi axles NOT the earlier Citroen ones, the Citroen axles are a straight swap for the Citroen 2CV car. Here are a couple I am in the process of making up. Not sure about the plunging if it makes a difference? Some driveline places in Seattle and Ballard told me no. I need the outer CV, that's what exploded on my boyfriend and I. Why can't it use a solid axle? Anyone have an insight to this? Emailed Alain and called, no answer. Aftercrap might be my only choice, but after seeing the horror stories, I'm not sure. |

Its a non-plunging CV isnt it? No plunge = slip joint. They are used because they have more angular range(FWD car)...but they don't plunge. |

Unless you move the pivot point for the rear arms you will have to use a plunging axle. If you look at the Drakart from behind, you will see that the upper and lower arms are at different angles than the axle which means they will move at different rates, if you move the pivot points to a location that places the arms and axle in the same plane you can get away with a non plunging axles. Have a look at a post 2004 Drakart they use non plunging axles. |

So apparently no one has the outer cv joint for a audi a100. Does anyone know an actual part number? Or what exact year audi the joint came off of? Thanks all :) |

I am at work at the moment so I can't post part numbers because I don't have them here. When I get home tonight I will check the numbers and post for you, there are quite a few different numbers that will fit. |

Ok just checked my evilbay for the last ones I bought. Here are the part numbers, these numbers should all be Lobro or their equivalent. These are by no means the only ones that will fit. I think Audi 4000, 5000, 100 and 200 CV joints will work, just check the spline count, 25 internal and 26 external and the seal area is 56mm. Please check your old one though, this is from my memory and I am OLD!! 431 407 275, 431 407 311A, 431 489 099A, 431 498 099AX, 803 407 275A. |

Here's a worthwhile mod to do to your Drak's axle. I lost a 2 day Enduro Event because my so called lock nut backed out and allowed my hub to de-spline enough that it stripped the last few splines. Was on the last lap, with 1/2 lap to go.Just came out of a creek crossing, turned right for a bend, then just went into the bush in a full circle. WTF!...only had LHS wheel drive. It's easy to do and can be done ON the Drak,no need to remove. Just drill an appropriate hole into the dimple of the axle end,tap a thread and screw in a bolt with large washer, stake it and loctite it all. This will prevent ever the nut backing out again.

Flanges ready for welding, next step is make up a jig to hold the flange in place for welding. Attachment: CV's 001.JPG [ 86.48 KiB | Viewed 6946 times ] Attachment: CV's 002.JPG [ 78.32 KiB | Viewed 6946 times ] |

Baz, I am playing that horrible waiting game now, if all goes well (it never does) they should be on their way down to California tomorrow. John says if I can get them to him by the 11th they will go in the next box. Not looking forward to my next phone bill either. |

Selling the Drakart. No help from Alain on a new axle and it will cost 785.00 per axle to have new ones made that will actually plunge. When I tried contacting the place that fixed sunblocks axle I got no response just automated messages. Unless someone has measurements for the single non plunging axle mod, I'm going to sell this as is and just remember never to buy anything related to Drakart. Alain calling me stupid for jumping the Drakart more than 3ft above the air was the last straw with this shit. |

What do you need Brittabrat? I thought you only needed the new CV joint itself are your axles damaged too. Can you show me photos of what you need or what the problem is? I was told not to jump mine higher than 15 feet or longer than 100 feet. Cheers Dave |

I have a serious temptation to cut this axle at the weld to clean it out so hopefully I can get it plunging again. Does anyone know whats inside these plunging axles or if there's a good reason why I shouldn't try this? I can't find any shops that will repair it for me, nor have I been able to find a replacement, as Alain will not even answer my calls anymore saying last that I should buy one of his newer cars. And I'd really really like to sell this thing with everything working.
