Picked up an atc 110 from nuke em several years ago, and seeing nickrnr pick up a few trikes has reminded me of mine. Looking for ideas and help, would like to do a ground up resto, but don't wanna drop a fortune on the bike at the same time (between the fl350r, 3 cars/trucks and a vintage gas pump, play money isnt exactly plentiful. :-) ) First and foremost, we have both forgotten what year it is, anyone know where the vin was on these bikes? guessing late 70's, but its a shot in the dark, second, anyone know where to get a paperback manual for the thing once the year has been established? i would prefer the paper back for the sake of convenience, but digital would work as well. I will get pictures up asap, and i bet that will help with the identification issue. will also get a few pictures of what little Engine CSI i have done as well.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

P.S. also have a post on three wheeler world, but i know many of us PO owners have/had atc's as well, the more knowledge the better i think :-)

Vin is usually on the steering stem or on one of of the rails under the Engine, I suppose you have already looked there?
I'd bet there is a forum that caters to the 110s, or to ATCs in general with a 110 section.

90's and 110's are a abslute blast to ride, not built for speed or for jumping but fun as hell will go about any place and are perfectly safe once you learn how to ride them.

Want to turn left FIRST you lean forward and left then you TURN the handle bars, want to turn right FIRST You lean forward and to the right then TURN the bars to the right, simple huh you would not believe how many people cant so this then bitch about how unsafe the 3 wheelers are lol

If it does start to tip you can save it buy simply putting your foot down in front of the rear tire that is powered not only by the Engine of the three wheeler but also now powered by the momentum you built up, it will snap your leg like a twig and possibly leave a nasty scar where it ripped some of the meat off the back of your leg haha OR you can downshift and hold the throttle WIDE OPEN so the tire breaks traction and ends up back on 3 wheels again.

Tipping over is much less painful than trying to save it by putting your leg down and saving it from tipping, watching some moron put their leg in front of a moving, turning tire is FUNNY EVERY TIME!!! I have witnessed this genius many times since I first started riding 3 wheelers back in 1971.

The first thing you want to do when you get it running is drop it in low and practice riding wheelies they are the wheelie machine!

Pics please!

I have two 1980 ATC110's in my shop I need to restore and get running again, bought both of them new :-) One was mine one was my moms.

Alright gents, here are some pictures. let me know if there is anything else you would like pics of. this was a complete trike, i have the other parts scattered around the garage. i agree with ya hoser, its a blast to ride wheelies on these. have to imagine its way easier with the low range box. :-)

So what all is wrong with it I see the top end off and the low range cover removed?

Look really really close at the cases if the chain broke and doubled up it might have cracked the cases creating a huge oil leak you will have to remove the side case and inspect to see if it can be welded up or the case replaced, this was a common problem on these the chain is enclosed and the owners never properly maintained just kept the slack out of the chain until it broke, the chain needs removed and measured to see what the stretch is and the sprockets inspected for wear..

Take the piston to BDC then try to get some detailed pics of the cylinder wall and post, wonder why the head is off these are rock solid reliable engines I doubt the rings are out of it unless it was poorly maintained.

I should have explained better. The seat for the trike has been long gone (little of the seat pan is left.) so water had been pooling into the air intake, carb and eventually into the Engine. when i got it from nuke em, it was rusted in place, couldnt turn the Engine with the pull start so, im the one that took the head off a few days ago. Using lots of pb blaster, a brass hammer, rubber mallet and lots of swear words :-) i freed the piston. cylinder has lots of rust build up where the rings were stuck. if i get the rust cleaned up, it would appear that the bottom end is in decent shape (will inspect anyways) and might get away with a new top end. Cases around the chain are good, will replace sprocket and chain once i figure out whats going to happen with the Engine.

Any who, i am stuck right now with trying to get the cylinder separated from the bottom end cases. That damn thing will not budge. The cylinders are not bolted on, and should slide off once the head is removed, correct? Anyone have any ideas/tips/tricks to removing these?

I answered my own question. :-) I am thinking that the crank and bottom end should be reuseable, and will most likely put a new top end and see what happens, here is the cylinder that came off, and matching piston. i am guessing this machine was parked before nuke em got it due to low compression, it is a shot in the dark, not alot of the rings are left (could be the rust issue that has been going on the last 8ish? years) but the piston looks pretty scuffed as well.

Does anyone know if versah or similar company makes a gasket kit for these? Go to wiseco for a piston kit once measurement have been taken, cylinder bored, ETC.? Head will also need some work, will turn my attention to the soonish, seeing if valves, valve springs and cam are salvagble. Does anyone know about aftermarket cams or the big bore kits? While im in here i could consider a few performance gains. :-)

Start researching I am out of touch with any of the mods on these engines but I know a lot can be done to wake them up.

Ive been posting on 3wheelerworld as well, but the majority of what has happened on those threads is two members bickering amongst themselves about how the vin only tells the year of the frame, not the Engine (which other members believe they are both 1981) there was one member who was actually being very helpful, i think i will pm him and see what he has to say. The carb from the Engine is rusted solid, so that's another things that could be upgraded if possible as well.

Sudco use to be about giving away their piston kits http://www.sudco.com/art.html you might ask, I would research and find out about a big bore option first not sure what application piston they used for the big bore stuff for all I know the ATC125 piston will drop right in the 110 cylinder once bored.

anyone know what the 125 piston size is? a guy on the 3wheeler board has a 56mm high compression piston i was fairly certain i will order. my cylinder is actually at 52mm, i had the machine shop measure it with better equipment then i have. so i could get the cylinder bored there, 56mm piston, high lift cam, possibly after market intake and mikuni 22mm carb with some sort filter set up. GIve it some umph, while still being fairly reliable? what is anyones thoughts on this?

I went ahead and ordered the piston kit, cam and carb from 3wheelerworld. Now we play the game of waiting for shipping

So after receiving a piston kit in the mail, i sent the cylinder off to a local shop to be bored. Now my next step is looking for the on off kill switch, headlight switch and throttle cable. any ideas? my seat pan has also rusted into oblivion.

I have now :-) found a few things on that site, but not everything. a lot of the three wheeler guys were recommending ebay. found a few things on there too. probably use a mix of the two, had to put tires on my honda civic though, so that has set this project back till at least next pay day.
