well I'm almost done thought i'd post some updates.

sadly my old pc hard drive failed and I lost my restore pictures before i could upload to photobucket.

started out as this
Image

it does look ok, but looks can be deceiving.

lets see first off list of bad/missing stuff.

gears in the reduction unit were put in wrong
all bad rusted bearings everywhere
no fuel filter or check valve
bad fuel lines
no exhaust gaskets
no rubber pull start tube
rusted rims, cheaply painted over leaked air and filled with slime :(
no kill switch
no brakes e-brake and disc
bad coil and condensor
bad shocks
bad fuel pump diaphram
bad drive belt
no spark arrestor
no 4 point harness
bent and bad tie rods/ends
cracked front fenders
no headlight
rat nest for wiring job
no air filter

that's all I can think of at the moment.

so here is the 95% finished project.
like I said lost my pictures, makes me mad.

anyways, I will post more pics when I get time to finish this odyssey. so I could not get the roll cage off for the life of me, hence the over spray on the front bumper, that I will touch up later. I have replaced everything bad/missing on my list.

Pete.

Thanks its been a fun project. also forgot to add I put 1987 Trx 250r front hubs on and 1+4 offset rims, gave me about 2-2 1/2 inches wider in the front, and 1993-05 trx 400ex-450r rear hubs also added about 3 inches wider to the rear. rides so much better and does not buck up hardly anymore when turning.

getting close to needing another one to restore.

Good job bloke!

I think most of us have a soft spot (shutup Nuke) for the ol FL250.
It's what most of us started with, and thought they were just the Duck's Nuts.
THEN came the FL350.............not long after the FL400........and then......and then Sled Pilots,Drakarts yadda yadda.
DOES it EVER end???
But as everyone with a heartbeat knows...ya just never forget ya first one huh? :-)

thanks again, i wish there was a fl350 project around my area, they all seem to be ready to ride around 2700-3500 atm.
and yes the fl250 is a gateway buggy haha. i got mine from a military guy about 30 said he had it for 15 years. bent the axle and got a new one and chain for gear box and never got the gears right inside the reduction box.

it was garaged the whole time and had no rust besides the bad bearings and rims, for 500$ with a title seemed good to me.

got the wiring finished up, no headlight yet. got the seat on. got the new belt on.

took it for a ride around the neighborhood to break the belt in.

got a few kinks to figure out:

after letting off the throttle seems to idle high for a few secends then goes back to normal. what could cuase this?

pulls to the right, tie rod adjust or air pressure is off. havent looked yet.

i sprayed the clutch with lube like an idiot so it smoked for a bit. im gonna clean with break clean. what do you guys recommend for clutch lube?

rear breaks are sticky, but other then that it was a blast to ride.

vintage spark arrestor

sti rear beadlock rims 9" on 450r trx hubs

front douglas rims 10" on trx 250r hubs

new belt dayco hp

that's all the progress and troubles i found today, Pete.

Buy some comet clutch lube
Comes in a can about $20 per can

Can you run brakes on the front with the trx250 spindles?

well i took the discs off mine, but im sure with these 10" rims there would be room for the front calipers.
it would take some fab work i'm sure.
