I just purchased a Rotax 583 rave kit from FARR for my FL400 and would appreciate any help or suggestions on how to wire the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition), coils, regulator and starter. I would rather not cut up the pilot harness and would like to keep the Rotax wiring separate if possible but I will do what I have to. Maybe a sled harness stripped down to what I need, but what do I need is the question? So come on all you guys that I see have made a similar Rotax conversion, tell me how you did it?

well the starter is the easiest part just hook up the wire to the new rotate starter

the post some photos of the plug that comes out of the Engine
every one is different

as for the kill wire you will need a double throw relay to have the original pilot kill switch work

the kill wire is the black with a white stripe that is on the small plug of the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) on the fl400 harness

Simple, remove the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition), and coil. roll the wires up and tuck them away. don't cut anything!!! Take the two yellow wires here

I only had red wires so i used them. Pick any two of the three wires. now you only need a ground switch to kill it.

You can use a relay for the kill

I like the original to still work :-)

Sounds like this guy really needs/wants a wiring schematic.
He needs everything --- regulator for charging, cd, starter and coil.

All he needs to wire is the relay and stator

I don't understand as everyone says you only have to wire the relay and stator but what about the coil and CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition)? A diagram would be a HUGE help and greatly appreciated.

The CSI will plug direct to stator and coil. Like I said before it is stand alone. Plug your CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) into the stator, your coil into your CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition), and you can run the Engine. The rest of the hookups are not required unless you want a kill switch and charging system

Take a photo of your plug ends off the Engine

I'll make you a diagram when I get a few minutes and have access to a printer

I can help with the kill wire and relay wiring for sure

I have the older wiring on my rotax's

Thanks now I just have to figure out the charging as I though one wire from the stator was for lighting and one was for charging but I'm getting close. Where would I get the relay and would you have a part number?
Thanks again.

Any auto parts store has relays. Just tell them you need a standard relay. 5 pin are the ones you want. If it's a 4 pin relay it won't work.

But I can't see what you are plugging it into? Will doing this allow the cooling fan to work also, and what about a charging system?

Okay so here is a pic of my wiring(if it works), with lots of questions like The kill switch is covered but would like to use stock ignition if possible, electric fan, charging system for electric start and lights. It would be nice if I could just hook up Rotax CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) and coil and use the rest of the pilot wiring.......I know I'm asking for to much!!!!
Again, THANKS for your time and help.

Since the pic isn't great here is what I have;
Yellow
Yellow/Black
Black/yellow(appears to be a solid wire rather than stranded)

[b]Black connector[b]
Black/white
Black/red
Black
Haven't received the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition), coils and regulator yet so possibly more to come.
