Post subject:  my new pilot.

Just picked her up today. I have 3 350s but this is my first pilot. I'm excited and eager to tear into it but ill have to finish my longtravel 617 first. It will definitely need some love. The cage has some horrible repair in it and I Dred heats under the foam. But the plastics are in good shape and it starts up right away. Fresh wheels, tires, brakes, and a roll cage rebuild it should be pirty nice. 3.5 he drive and 3k she's mine. Definitely not the cleanest pilot but finally one in my pricerange. It's missing a air box lid and snorkel, front bumper, mirror. And yes this was the one on ebay.

I don't think it has many hours on it it appears to have the original drive belt. The suspension and steering is very tight.

Ask the former owner who made the seat cover looks like a pretty good job.

Looks like a good deal to me.

I asked him if it had been recovered before I headed to pick it up. He said he didn't know. So it wasn't him who had it done. It is nice and soft. I didn't realize how much more room the pilots have.

It's missing the airbox lid does this bracket have anything to do with that or is something else missing?

That's the bracket for your missing radiator over flow tank.

Nice score! Maybe the previous owner likes to flip it so he braced the areas that like to bend on a rollover??
Be sure to oil the K&N filter and get a outerwear for it, I run open box filters like that but drilled three or four 1" holes in the bottom of the air box to let the dirt and sand escape the bottom of the box. Compression ok?

Repairs look like a typical home brew back yard hacker repair, not great looking but probably one of the safer repairs I have seen made to frames. Not cosmetically pleasing and weight minded but might have been all that was in the reach of the owner at the time.

All these frames are bent up they are made from bent up tubing at birth I doubt their is a single Pilot that would fit back into the factory jigs today, whats important is safety and how they roll, roll it on pavement and see how easily it rolls going straight that is where most my concern would be, get the time and funding then correct the past repairs go for it.

Pull the air box assembly out from the carb, post up some detailed as found pictures of the inside of the filter and the tubing that goes from the air box to the carb, post detailed pics of the intake side of the carb and carb slide, remove the carb slide and post pics of the carb slide. This inspection is a must for any used ATV.

Im replacing the tubing today. The compression was 125 cold. It's definitely running rich. Good thing too because the previous owner ran 50-1 mix. I'll post some more pics as I go. Don't plan to ride until I'm satisfied she's ready.

Ran out of paint too! The previous owner armorall'd the crap out of it so I keep getting fish eyes in the paint. Even after several wipe downs with brake thinner.

nothing wrong with 50:1 as long as it's good grade of oil, I run AV gas and 50:1 golden spectrol for about 30 years, never had a lubrication issue, well there was that one time when a big end rod bearing went south but I had tried adding something to the fuel which i attribute to that. Run what works for you, tune your engines for it and don't change. "if it works, don't fix it"
