What was the condition of the shaft where the leaky seal rides? If there is any roughness, you will find a leak now or soon. I have a crank that is junk because of pitting on one of the seal's sealing surfaces on the crank shaft.

Is there any way it could be built up with filler rod and then turned back down to the correct diameter?

Thanks

The pitting will just cause the new seal to wear and leak. Crank is spinning 4-6k rpms, so slight imperfections get magnified. Steel vs. rubber...rubber loses.

If you've got the equipment, it can be done. Just don't go too crazy with heat so as not to warp anything.
