I found this thread 3 pages deep started back in 2016. This is the chassis that I am going to be using for my flat track racer, so I decided to revive it vs start a new thread. I repaired the rear of the frame back to OEM as the cross section had been cut out from the previous owner to accommodate the snowmobile Engine.
This project is going to be a ground up build utilizing many spare part that I have as well as many new parts. I want this buggy to be reliable & fast for racing. I have taken some steps to accomplish this and hopefully it will all pan out.
The
Engine I am using for this build will be a fully rebuilt bottom end with new bearings and seals. The crank was also rebuilt by Ken OConnor Racing in CT utilizing all oem parts. I had the case halves vapored honed before I rebuilt it. It was my first experience with this process, and I was very impressed with the results. For the top end on this Engine, I will be utilizing a Leckich Co. cylinder and head. I scored this treasure in back January and it will be a prefect addition to this build. The cylinder and head are currently out with Methodical getting the works.
The Engine will be paired with a high flow intake, 39mm mikuni pro-series flat slide carburetor, billet aluminum intake manifold, v-force reeds, and a torque spacer. I will be using a reproduction power-pros exhaust as well. Inspired by scpilot66, I am going to be using a pilot radiator setup to cool this baby down. Pilot radiator setup is courtesy of Kuma.
I inspected/rebuilt the gearbox to make sure all the gears and bearings were up to par. Installed some new seals as well. Brake master cylinder and rear caliper were rebuilt by nitrosport_5.
I have a set of freshly rebuilt works shocks that I will be using for the rear. The front suspension will be converted to a-arm utilizing a FARR Offroad TRX conversion kit. I toyed with the idea of keeping it with the OEM j-arm setup with a lower center of gravity, but I liked having a wider stance in the front for stability and the shocks with more adjustability. I am going to fine tune this as needed and possibly change to a shorter shock or re-spring. I will also be using a 18” tire up front and that will lower it a bit.
That is the gist of it. Some photos below I have of work completed thus far and will continue this thread with build progress. It won’t be ready for the first races of the season but I am going to do my best to be racing this thing ASAP.
