project is looking very good, I agree with Fred about the bedliner spray, specially for the foot tub area, that light bar is going to reflect back at you, need to avoid that so your eyes can stay dilated for night riding

Got my template updated from the first foot tub and made the second one this week. Came out really nice and am very happy with the finished product. I did not even consider the refection of the LED light bar on the bare aluminium. I glad you caught that Kuma, thanks! My solution is that I will be painting the foot tube with U-POL Raptor Bedliner paint. It is UV resistant, Chemical resistant, and deadens sound and vibrations. Another suggestion that was made to me cut down vibrations was to bead roll the aluminum. However, I don't have a bead roller. I would think that diamond plate aluminum would have a similar effect. Hoping to get them painted in the next week or so, weather permitting.

Got my foot tubs painted with the U-Pol Raptor bed liner paint. Very impressed with this product and a really nice textured finish. I need to wait 5-7 days for it to fully cure so will be installing them next weekend. Excited to get these finished and get going on the installation of the steering column, brake lines, throttle/choke, etc. I'm going to start working on the assembly of the suspension components also.

So is it a spray or roll on? I'm gonna need to do something similar to my roof so any info is appreciated.

No problem. It can be applied in several manners depending on the texture you are looking for. I purchased the U-Pol spray gun designed for this paint ($15) and went with the standard texture.

Here is a link with all application options and the instruction for each:

Thanks Toby!

Fred, The only other suggestion I would have is to follow the prep instructions as well. They are on the link I posted. 3 days in the curing process and this stuff it rock hard. I wish I had sprayed a scrap piece to bend up and hit with a hammer to see just how strong it is. My feeling so far is that it will hold up really well.

I finished the installation of my foot tubs this weekend and roughed in my brake lines, throttle, and choke cable. Couldn't be happier with how they came out and have no doubt they will hold up to the toughest conditions. I used a rubber trim around the edges help protect them. I still need to make a little cover piece for where the steering column passes through the tub. Both projects will have front & rear SS brake lines made by site member DMoneyAllstar.

I have no intentions to sell them. It takes me awhile to make them and just don’t have the time to do so. I would love to help others out but it is just not feasible at this point. When I finish my projects and have time I can provide my templates to whoever wants to make their own.

Just got around to reading the updates, things are looking unreal! I have one diamond plate footbed, I also painted with bedliner. But would love the template for the ones you made, they look absolutely awesome! Looking forward to seeing your progress

I have been chipping away on these projects. Got the front suspension and steering on both buggys roughed in. I have been cleaning up the transmissions getting them ready for install. I was having a hard time getting the clutch off one of them so made my own clutch puller for it. I installed grease fittings in the rear axle carriers for easy service. Started to fit the hoods around the LED light bar / upper shock mounts on the LT. Rebuilt my shifters and installed them along with the e-brakes. I will be putting new grease fittings in the J-Arms because I forgot to tape them when I painted everything. I also have a speedchaser front bumper to go on that one. Starting to look like FL350's again. :-)

Very nice work there. Looks awesome so far.

A word of caution is in order on these grease fittings you put on the rear axel carriers. The bearings are 2RS, which means they have seals on both sides. Putting grease into the space between the two bearings will not lube them as the seals will prevent that. The important part here is that if you continue to put grease into this cavity then eventually it will fill up completely, and if you continue pumping in grease you will actually hydraulic the bearings right out of the housing. That's why Honda never put a grease nipple on these units. Careful.

That’s a good point CO and makes sense why Honda never put one in. I guess I will just use it to fill that cavity upon install and call it a day.

In the picture below part #8 is a o-ring that goes between the hub and bearing. Is this just used to keep dust/dirt out, the grease in, or both? It has always been covered in grease when I have removed them and thought the grease would seep through there somehow.

Not really sure what the purpose is of that o-ring but my money says it's to keep water and crap from getting to the bearing journal and rusting it. Also to keep crap from getting into that part you want to grease up. It would help prevent water, sand and poo from getting to the splines but only from the one side.
The reason it is always covered in grease is because a shock may be leaking or eventually the bearing seals go and the lube inside runs out.

Thanks!

I have been pretty busy the last few weeks with the holidays and all but have been chipping away them and put some time in this weekend. Got the transmissions cleaned up and installed. Installed the axles, trailing arm assembly's, and rear shocks. Got them both sitting on 4 wheels. I am going to make some final adjustments on the rear and then start the Engine rebuilds.

Awesome! It is a lot of time consuming work and can be a bit frustrating at times but will be worth it in the end. Half the battle is obtaining all the parts. Please post a Project thread if you don't already have one, I would like to follow along with your progress.
