Hello,
Today is the start of my project. I had bought this pilot about 3 months ago and have not had much time to touch it.
The goals are to have a clean reliable pilot. First im going to remove everything to get frame a arms ect powder coated.then fix or repair any thing worn out or broke.there are a few questions I have the Engine looks to be in great shape same with the aftermarket exhaust. But I was thinking about a Rotax or simular swap ? Also I noticed on my friends pilot the front brakes are not good so I think I'll get disk brakes up front. What other things should I do or look for when I have it apart?

Just curious but why pull the Engine and sell it ??
Oddy's will do over 60 mph stock. That's highway speed and fast enough to break your back.
Anytime you modify something away from stock you start having reliability issues. Plus it's a big job and expensive. You got a running pilot.

I may be wrong but have been told that these engines parts are hard to come by? I love going fast same reason I have a gsxr 1000 not a 600 both will kill you. I'll have it completely apart not say I'm going to switch engines just asking ifs a good idea? There is a lot of things that bother me about this machine lots of over spray extra

if your think of a conversion sell your Engine and get a 670 rotax..more power than you will need and parts are way easier to get for it as well

I have a stock pilot and my 583.. No comparison. I'll go for the sled powered pilot every time.
I have a spare sled Engine that I picked up for 200, try that with a pilot Engine.
If you are a purist, which it seems you are not, then stay stock.
If your able to weld and can fabricate convert it yourself. If not, I wouldn't hesitate to pickup a Farr kit.
You'll never look back except to make sure everyone else is still with you. -::
