I recently got fenders off of ebay (mforbes?) They are all stitched together and they were painted with some kind of textured paint. My plan is to take the paint off, repair, and wet sand stress cracks out. I'm repairing the cracks using a hot stapler and plastic welder. Here is some of the photos from the ebay listing.

I got the paint off the first fender and began by repair. To get the paint off I used Permatex Paint Stripper and a bondo scrapper.

I just watch that video on the hot stapler, never knew that thing existed. I’ll be following your progress good luck, looks like it’s the perfect tool for your project. |

that's interesting. Are you going to plastic weld right over the embedded hot staple? How are you going to fill the drilled holes? I still think the fender would be weak with just the staples. |

Very interesting. I didn't know a machine like that existed either and will be following your progress. A long time ago I did take our busted fenders into a local plastics repair shop. It cost a lot of money and at the end of the day we don't run fenders anymore. They just get busted up in crashes or bumps into stuff. Had one branch go right through a rear fender and had another branch go right through my floor tub between my feet. That one really pizzd me off. That plastics company did not use staples though. They used filler rod and welded it like you would weld metal. That guy also told me not to use a heat gun to "smooth out" the micro crack you see in our old sun beaten fenders that we all have. He said it makes them real brittle. Thought I would mention that unless someone got a bright idea. When I told him I wanted to do that he just said: "fkn stupid youtube clowns". I said judging by your comment that must be a bad idea. He just laughed and then handed me a bill. |

I was going to get a set of used fenders and fiberglass over them. |
