Post subject:  handmade intake
Been a minute since I have been on this site. Got busy with life. I've had a 350 Engine apart I've been building sitting on my friends workbench for a couple years now. Well he's moving and I need to shit or get off the pot on this project. So I decided I better get it put together. One thing I've been needing is a intake for the 38mm carb I bought for it. And I figured I'd keep with tradition and build what I can so I can buy what I can't build. This definitely has me motivated to finish the retrofit on my CNC mill. Still have some more work to do on it.

Pictures of the mill when you get a chance

When test running keep a eye on jetting, running better might be a lean condition caused by design including increased vibration and harmonics at the carb itself causing fuel foaming = lean condition = Poof Kaboom = cuss cuss cuss...

The mill is just a regular Bridgeport. My cnc is also a Bridgeport but it needs some new electronics. I never considered the increased vibration. I wonder if anyone has done any real caculations to see how accurate the balancer shaft really is. I would think too as the belt tension increases that would also help with vibration. I personally have had fairly good luck with these engines. Most of mine have water-cooled heads. I run redline synthetic and avgas. Most are completely stock other than the heads.

I don't want to be the fly in the soup here but make sure the base under the rubber boot is a full base. That was the design flaw in the aftersucks intake. The boot did not have a full platform to sit on so when you tightened the boot to the aluminum, the metal plate in the rubber would flex. This caused a gap and you leaned out your Engine. How do I know ?? My brother bought one of those pieces of shyte and it cost us an Engine. I did do a thread on it.

This flange is different from what I see most people have used. this is from a Polaris. It metal backed and has a groove for a oring to help it seal. It has a full area to seal against. I have not drilled and tapped the holes for it yet so if it's off a little in the pictures it won't be when I'm done. I also found a 90 degree elbow that should work with the new carb.
