I decieded it was time to get a backup pickup for my business and since I'm a full fledged off road enthusiast & and have a passion for old vehicals I figured it needed to be a vintage 4x4. I am a big fan of IH & Jeep so I looked for one of these & found many I liked very well & purchased this cool 69 J-3000. It does have a body lift & 35" tires but other than basically stock with the factory 350 Buick 4sp. First step was to remove the rusted stock bed & replace it with a steel flatbed with roll bar. If this project is of intrest of the board I'll keep everyone posted as it progresses. I can't wait to wheel this one off road!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. I would rather have kept the bed on it as I really like the looks of it but it has some serious rust in difficult places to fix & I don't have the time or expertise to fix it right now. I'll put it in storage for now & hope someday I can restore it if even for a trailer to pull behind it.

When was the last time you had to pull a chain to drop a tailgate?

The drivetrain will remain stock for now as it pulls & hauls loads fairly well for a small block gas Engine. Gear ratio is 4:10 I believe so it rolls the 35s ok but the speedo is way off.

It has power steering & brakes (that I'd like to up grade to disk) so it drives very well.

Jeep cabs are just a bit short on legroom for a 6' dude to be using a long stroke clutch peddle and this one has a soft seat so I'm going to be looking for something a bit firmer to raise me up to improve this but still keep plenty of headroom to wear a helmet.

Ike sent me more pics, looks like he is making good progress...

I had to make a fuel tank mount and remount it after removing the stock pickup bed from the 69 J-3000 Jeep. Also made up a temporary fuel filler neck support & some tail lamps to make it driveable. Once this was done it was time to test out the 4 wheel drive so we hooked it up to a Mustang skid steer and had a tug-of-war. At first we broke the large tie down strap so we hooked up a pair and both rigs sat still and spun all four tires. It was a pretty cool sight and a good test of this old vintage Jeep.

Well since the J-3000 passed the tug-a-war test it was time to put it to the rock crawl test so i took it to a Holloween 4x4 event. All the proceeds were donated to the United Way so I entered the J-3000 & my 77 CJ-7. I had a very poor spotter that got me stuck on the first pass with the CJ but made it through on the next try. The J-3000 made it seem easy with the 35s. There were some cook rigs attending & competeing.
