That is a 460 cubic inch gas Engine. Good for around town. Most gas engines will have poor fuel mileage when pulling a heavy load. There are tons of crew cab dually diesels in TX (with higher mileage). You should be able to pick one up cheap. I would go for any of the 7.3L diesel fords. I get 12mpg with the 26ft enclosed trailer packed solid and there is still plenty of power left in it.

I second the diesel for towing. I recently got 15.4 mpg unloaded on a 17hr hiway trip. Fully loaded with a 24ft open trailer consistantly get 11-13mpg cruising 65-70mph. 1997 Dodge 3500 turbo cummins.
On the hand, I have a 96 dodge 5.9 gas 1500 that has the worst mileage I have ever witnessed. Straight from the factory 9mpg lol. don't wanna know what mpg is when towing!

that's what I am hoping to find real cheap! The Chevy gets 14-15 on the highway, but put a trailer behind it it drinks gas like a fish! I will keep the chevey cause it's real clean on the inside, and great for short trips, but I either have to find several riding buddies to split the gas bill or spend $.45 a mile to go anywhere! So a trip to Little Sahara in OK would cost $500.00 in fuel alone!

I Had a 2001 1500 ram and it got 11 mpg just around town! I hated that truck with a passion! I towed a heavy trailer 30 miles and blew the tranny!!! Sold it for a grand and was happy to see it gone!
