Nice, looks like it will have some killer bottom end torque! Looks like it is missing the MA plate for the trails.

Looks like you will need it on the front to keep the front end planted!
How is it on the top end?

Have not had it open yet... seems to pull hard once it kicks in... I think I can still go fatter on the main jets too... I know I should start fat and work down but I am already much fatter than the sled had to start...

In the many sled motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) conversions that I have done, I have always found that I needed to substantially increase the main jet size when compared to what it had when it was in the sled. I used to try and make them spot on, now I just run them fat, there is still plenty of power for the trails even when they are good and fat, running 900-975 egt's.

I am at 480 mag side and 460 pto and she can still take more...
I love this thing... Thanks for the info King... I was thinking I had something off... because the sled runs in the cold and without air filter I figured I would have to bring the main down in the Pilot with air filters and warm weather but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

tried some 22 inch tires on it... I do not prefer them... I will throw 24 or 25 on ...my wife loves the burnout... she is always trying to get me to smoke any and all tires... front wheels, rear, forward or reverse

At one point I was at the botton clip on the needles and boy did I have a hard time getting the cable out later.. the needle was so high the cable had to be perfect to clear the cut in the holder.... my fingers were killing me from holding those damn springs back....
More to come!

The wife drove it today... maybe a bad idea? she says it is a death trap.. I told her others have built much more powerful and quicker buggies, and she asked "do you think telling me this is helping?" LOL she thinks I am crazy any whoooo.... she drives quite well though...
Here is a SALUTE to FAMILY FUN!

at Rocky Mountain http://rockymountainatv.com i came up with 3 different tires that they offer in a 23x10-10 size. The Kenda Bearclaws being the cheaper ones. The ones on my ody are 22x12-10's for reference.

Well I finally did what King KX rec long ago...
I took my silencer that was originally for a KX 500 and modified it..
I was having heat issues with the old one after WFO for a bit...
Now I cant keep my foot into it for long at all.
I gutted the old shell... Bought a 1 3/4 ID exhaust pipe 18 inches long... this is a little larger than the exit of the sled expansion chamber...
drilled a million holes in it ... wraped it in packing and placed in the old FMF outer package...
It is a completely different machine now... and heat is... so far way down on pulls.. but I cannot keep my foot on the gas for longer than a few seconds... run out of real estate quick....
Thanks KING KX... great tip... shouldve done it long ago...
G.O.

Glad your getting it all figured out. Working the bugs out takes longer than the actual build sometimes. Now you just have to get it registered and come out to play!

Thanks again to all that have been a help.. advice wise or kind comments...
I am glad that I am getting the bugs out.. but if I was to do it again I would make the transplant without changing the carbs at first... trying to get the carbs dialed in and not knowing if the exhaust was holding it back ( it was) or if it was the intake (filters air tubes) etc.. all at once makes it a second guess game.. try this and second guess it etc...
It has been fun and I will do another for certain.... but having the unit as stock as possible on the swap would have taken a lot of the guess out of it... and dare I say EFI next swap....
I am now in search of a Quadzilla... always wanted a 500 2 smoke quad and now I need to find her...
Regards to all

Hello
I have to go back and replace all the pictures to this post that were lost in the hack...
Update... I moved the rad up behind my head and lowered the gas tank .... I did this because of cooling issues and to give just a bit more protection the the gas tank... It cools very well now and most trail time the fan stays off and under full use I turn it on via toggle (no temp assist yet)... I am thinking of this but just have not done it yet...
This Pilot handles like a dream even with the Engine sitting a little higher than most desire and the TM38 carbs now with the rad change are a breeze to setup... I love these carbs...

I cut the sled air box up and used the rubber mounts from it that mounted to the sled carbs... I attached the rubber intakes to the hose with 2 part epoxy and it has worked out very well...
sorry it took my a bit to find the place I purchased the tubes from...

here it is
