Picked up this old Ody for next to nothing. Found a nice rinning 1983 Yamaha Inticer 340 snowmobile for $195 bucks.

The motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) would not drop down between the frame rails. So i added the square tube you see. welded the Sled motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) mount plate to that. I slotted the rail and also slotted the frame. It has 1" adjustment in both forward and sideways.

The back fender mount rails were made like that for the original fender mounts would not work. The Engine was in the way ofcorse. I just made some 2" spacer on the bottom frame which extended the fender out 2". For the top fender mounts I just bent some pipe and followed the fender up the the hoop bar that I made as well. I was able to use the original Ody tabs. I will weld some tabs brackets to hold the upper fender on.

The pipe was pretty easy really. I just cut the original Y pipe with a hack saw untill it was almosy cut off. I then bent the cut part strait down. Then made a peace of pipe to fit. Hope it works :)

Hope to have this down and POR15 in about 3 weeks.

It looks ummm, unique.

Never seen electrical tape used in that way before. :-)

It's all a learning curve, have fun with it, as that's the main objective.

Here is the 340 Rupp Engine that came with the Ody. It was missing stator parts. Also had this funky pipe. Was thinking it would not run right so I set it aside for now. It was mounted useing bed rail frame. I could grab the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) and flex it by hand. The only good thing about this motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) is that it is very small. It does fit between the frame rails on a FL250. I found the stator parts on ebay and it does seem to run fine on the bench.

Got my side bars started today. Busted my vise so that stopped me for today. You never think how handy a Vise can be untill you do not have one.

I got the side cage made tonight. Just started bending until I came up with something I thought was cool. Turned out okay I guess. Lots more protection at least.

Also mounted the exhuast and fenders. Will do wiring and test ride this weekend. If it goes okay I will post vid. Then it is tear down time. I am going to paint the frame black and the cage white and have red fenders. I also got new bearings seals for the rear. And new bushings and bearings up front. Also putting 3" wheel spacers.

I will be adding a guard behind the drivers seat. The clutch is right at your head level.

My plans changed with this Ody for I picked up another better Odyssey. I was going to add a full cage to this ody but I want to spend my money on my new toy.

Also can anyone tell me how to add a spacer in my rear driven clutch? Any threads on this? I want to run the larger sled belt. Also when removing the rear driven do you have to wind up that spring when putting back togather? Or just push it on? Or I should say is it loaded? Really need to figure out how to space that clutch?

What size steel or aluminum would be a safe guard for that clutch that's right next to your neck? I got to ge that fixed as well.

Spent the afternoon preping the Ody for Por15 paint job. The first pics are washing of the Marine Clean cleaner. It is a very powerfull water based degreaser. Best I have ever used by far.

After we washed the Marine Clean off. We sprayed with Por15's Metal ready. This step turns rust to Zinc Phosphate. If you look at the later pics you will see a chalk like stuff on the parts.

Here are some pics. it is drying right now. I will paint tomorrow afternoon.

Got the Por15 on today. Turned out very nice. Remember that nasty looking red skid plate above? Por15 made it like new(pic 4)

The side cage, nerf bars and wheels will be por15 silver as well. Red plastics.

Here are some pics right before the top coat for UV protection.

I just used a foam brush. In a way it is like painting thin tar. I just dabbed it into all the corners and tight spots. The stuff self levels with no brush marks. I did spray the top coat though. I think the brush would be better for this frame. Lots of tight spots. I was able to run a small spunge behind the frame rails. I do not see how you could spray inside there. You could brush Por15 on with a tooth brush and see no brush marks if you wanted to.

Hoser, My Nova is a 1965. it has a 300hp 350/350. Two summers ago I put a 373 posi with some larger race axles. New exhuast and a CPP lower control arm kit. New bushing coil springs and all that stuff. I put a MSD box and distributer. Also disc brakes with dropped spindles on the front. Lowered it 2" all the way around. New leaf springs as well. Also added a Ford Taurus electric fan and a new gauges in the intrument panel. Sway bar and power steering. I have a set of Sanderson Headers waiting to go on as well. Some day I want to put a 375 to 400 hp crate motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )).

The CPP control arm kit works very good. The Nova's have that single control arm strut rod set up. I can corner a little bit now. :)

Here some pics of the car.

Your Nova is sweet, I been looking for a solid 62-65 to turn into a daily driver, update the whole car, brakes, Engine, trans, suspension, install a/c drive it for ever, problem is finding a rust free one in my price range been looking for a few years and not having much luck I might have to just buy one already restored.

My vote is youget one already restored. You will spend so much of you time restoring, we wont see you on the board for weeks. CSI'ing PIlot/Ody stuff will be put on hold for???Image. I spent 2 years, evenings , nights, weekends, restoring my 69, no wife or girlfriens to bother me. It was an endevour... They say "people who restore old cars are people who have never restored an old car", LOL . Never say never but if I had it to do all over again I would get one already restored, however must been a QUALITY" restoration, so many hacked jobs out there

Been busy painting and rebuilding parts. Here is some update pics. The Silver POR15 is on the first coat in the pics. My Engine is cleaned and ready to go. Replacing the bearings in the chain drive. Also getting ready to Por15 the rear parking brake stuff. Will be ready put it all togather this week.

Also going to machine 3/16 off the driven clutch cam.(where the snap-ring sits) Hoping to match the sled belt with the Ody stock drivin. Any tips on what I am about the do?

Enjoy

Well this weekend I got all the paint and cleaning done. Starting to put her back now. I am happy with the por15 paint job. Spent a few hours cleaning and rebuilding the drivin and the reduction box. I was scared of it at first. But the rebuild was simple.

Here are some pics.

The moter cases were painted with rebuilders cast aluminum rattle can spray paint. It has a really cool looking cast color. The pulleys I just hooked up a drill to the clutch bolt. Then used steel wool and fine sand paper and some other cleaning pads. Was really easy for the drill did all the work. I clear coated the outside only on the drive clutch.

This is what it look like when I started. This was a nice unit. You can see the gold still on the disc rotor. I replaced the bearing and lower seals only. Chain passed the stretch test.

Look'n Good! You know 250s can wheelie with sled motors, be careful not to roll it right off the get go! Great fab work too.

Thanks, Yes I seen the vids on you tube of the wheelies. Thank God I am older now and not as crazy as I used to be. I will be sure to take it easy with no rear suspension. I have a old race Ody with full suspension for when I want to go crazy. Again thanks
