Hi
Reading through posts it looks like uni filters are the best protection.
So I was thinking two clamp on duel filters would work, I would need two
90 degree rubber elbows would that be good.

Yeah the UNI dual stage filters are better if used with the proper filter oil, the problem is no open air filter AKA "pod filter" is a good setup for used off road, sooner or later your going to meet up with rain, mud, water, and its going to get sucked through into your Engine, don't be confused when you read about filter oil that is "water proof" because it don't stop water from being sucked through the Engine it just means if you put the filter oil in water its resistant to the water lol.

The hot setup or proper setup would be a air box with the filters inside shielded from mud and water, it also offers protection from a roost of sand, the BEST setup would be the air box with prefilters like you see on other Pilots or Odysseys.

Maybe you can fabricate some sort of box? If not maybe make some short of shield to go over the filters?

Those carbs don't look like they have a lip machined on the inlet side to prevent a filter from slipping off.

If you end up with filters clamped to the carbs support the ends of the filters so gravity don't pull them while your riding.

Going by memory the cylinders on that Engine is chrome plated, they don't tolerate much dust and they are junk, its like 300 bux a cylinder to get it replated + gaskets + piston rings your looking at probably 400 bux if a filter falls off, 800 bux if they are not oiled right and you suck dust, more if it takes out bearings in the bottom end.

Same with sucking water 2 stroke Engine internals sucking water from one mud hole splash can turn a perfect running Engine into junk in seconds...

Thanks Hoser
I will figure out how to put a filter box and pre filters on better to take the time now and do it once.

I used 2 90* elbows, to a custom adapter to use a '95 Caprice airbox and intake elbow that I had laying around.

Any more pictures that shows more air box details? using something already in production is a great idea.

The airbox and elbow are Caprice parts. Made a sheet metal adapter to go from the Caprice elbow to 2 90* silicone elbows to the carbs.

I'm reusing the airbox for the new motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )). Same idea but different location.

The Engine runs mock up is done now it is time to take it all apart and prep for paint
I was going to give it a quick sand and splash a coat of paint on.
With all the other awsome resto jobs done on this forum I think I will
take my time strip to bare metal and use some decent automotive paint, can't come up with the cash
to media blast and powder coat.
Thanks for all the help and great ideas that have got me this far.

Did the crank seals on the 440 picked up brake lines and a kawasaki tack today. I hope to get a lot done this weekend.
I will take some pics of the progress this weekend.Progress seems slow chasing all the threads in the frame and cutting bolts to make sure they are all right length. Picked up an air filter box off a 2002 ford it should fit with a few mods thanks Dave for that tip.

fully
It was all together as one item I thought it was a great deal. It took a bit of time to wire brush and sand them but all the ball joints are tight I put new brake pads on but that was it.
It was a bit of trial and air to get the mounting done but with a little luck and looking at pics on the forum it seems to work.
