The snow is melting and Im getting antzy for the good weather and have been mocking up clutching stuff and now finally some front end ideas. I just sold one of my TRX 450R's and took a bunch of Hi Perf stuff off it before she went. I have been dying to see what the long travel arms I use to race would look like on the pilot. Here are some pics of the mock up. I am using a stripped chassis that I have to get all my basic shock length numbers from. Looks like 16.5-17" front shocks with a stroke of 4-4.75 are gonna work. (of course that is just a jump off number for mock up purposes) I have been brainstorming a bump kit too...because it will have alot of travel if this setup ends up on it. More to come...got some cool ideas for a good rear shock upgrade too.

I used the 400ex spindles, rotors, calipers on mine, with a set of triple rate works 16.5" shocks on my +2 a arm set up. I left the shock mounts in the stock location on the a arm and ended up with 8.5" travel. If I move the lower shock mount inboard and reposition the upper then I would be good for around 12" before the ball joints bind. You will definitely need either a bump steer set up of a rack and pinion. I had about 4" bump steer with the stock steering linkage. If I could find a rack and pinion it would be installed, instead I have been working on a bump steer set up. To many moving parts IMO.

How much longer over stock are your a arm that you will be using?

Oh geez...im not sure exactly how much longer the arms are from stock but im pretty sure the setup yields +3 total width. I agree about the rack...vs. bump kit. The rack would have to use a huge pinion gear to achieve all the steering needed to go lock to lock with a half turn. That is why it would be pretty expensive/custom...and why mine will probably get a bump kit similar to those being used. I hate the idea of welding to the chassis but I have done it to my race quads...and got over it lol. I think I saw pics of the 400EX spindles...have you driven it yet?

No driving yet. Still have about 8" snow and I decided to tackle the bump steer issue. Having a tweak in the front end is creating some frustration and really dragging this out. No since in driving it when I know it won't be satisfactory.

Ya...Im a perfectionist too man. I actually have only a rainstorm or two before its all melted here...but NO WAY would I bring my pilot out during mud season around here. That is a gibson front end pictured...the lower is a bolt on but the upper needs to be custom made. Im gonna try fox floats all the way around...found out the long travel shocks for this front end bolt right in the rear of my Pilot(custom axis triple rates) but are just shy of what the stroke needs to be. One of the guys that I sponsor in NEATV has a set of first gen evols that are gonna be spot perfect in eye to eye measurements and stroke length for the rear. The machined pieces that fit into the shock mounts need to be custom to make them mount but its not a big deal. The front end will take a set of yamaha apex stock shocks they are about perfect as well in length and stroke and are an upgradeable shock. My shock guy is Seth Fligge and he is the master of the float...so if they need to be setup differently they are going to him.
