Hey everybody i wanna say thanks for your help so far. i just became a member but have been reading alot of the posts and checking out some sweet pictures of previous projects. My friend and I have begun the daunting task of restoring an fl250. so far we have removed the roll cage, which was a pain, the tires and fenders. we have access to a soda blaster and a powder coat booth so we plan to do that ourselves. we are gonna blast all the parts to make them look somewhat new. any tips and comments and suggestions would be great thanks.

Welcome to the site! Looks like you are off to a good start. My advice would be keep up with the beer consumption and your project will be MUCH MORE FUN!!! LOL. Keep them pics coming, lots of times people on this site will spot things that you might overlook. I have had that happen quite a few times.
Good luck on your build!

WARNING!

Restoring vintage Odyssey's can lead to excessive beer consumption and wallet collapse! :-)

Good luck!

HAHAHA. ya the beer has helped so far. kinda relaxed us through the battles with the cage. luckily we have alot of friends with some hookups so we can get powdercoating cheap and stuff like that. does anyone have any suggestions on a race bucket seat. we would like to get rid of the traditional 250 seat. and if you want i'll sell ya the seat too.

are the seat from a 350 padded. i kinda wanted something padded since it doesn't have full suspension. that's the style seat im looking for though.

The 350 or the Pilot seat doesn't have much padding. What you would be looking for is a Beard style suspension seat.

i have a fl/cr250 and i don't think all the padding in the world can make up for the lack of supension.

but is is fun

What I really remember is the severe bounce those bad boys get when drifting at times. I used to have to wear a kidney belt when I was racing it was so bad!

Then again it was also because we used Harley Davidson golf cart tires for flat track racing! Little to no flex in the sidewall! It was kind of like riding with rocks for wheels. The high back buggy seat I used made a big difference but Oldmanody is right......padding will help but it won't make up for lack of suspension.

i think we're gonna keep the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) pretty stock. probably clean up the internals. last time i had it out it ran great until the belt broke. that in turn knocked the rear seal leaking fluid all over the break, which made me not be able to stop. lol. scary man. scary.

Anyway here my old race Ody. The last pics are a fl250 sled conversion I just did. Also another fl250 project I am working on now. I will start a build thread this weekend. I am almost ready for paint. I will be using POR15.

Also it looks like you have a modified clutch system. Your driven clutch cam is not stock. Also they drilled a hole in the frame to fit another primary clutch on the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )). Probably a much better setup than stock. I am guessing that's a Comet Duster clutch. Also looks like the driven is spaced out for wider belt. Look that over good for ordering parts might be a problem. I bet you have a nice clutch setup in your buggy. It should hook up real well.

Can you post some better pics of the top of your motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )). Along with carb and the clutches? Would really like to see the primary clutch.

In the first pic in this thread. What are the black bars running to the rear axle?

Thanks

Edit: I found this pic of a challenger chassis FL250. I think you may have a challenger chassis. Is that J-arm on the ground a extended J-arm?

oh ya those black bar looking things to the rear axle are actually a tie strap to keep it from falling down. it was not bolted up fully so we threw that on so it wouldn't bend anything around. ya i'll post some pictures of the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) and clutch setup. i don't know what the stock looks like bc this is all i've ever had. ya when it was running it was fast.

From what I can tell. You have a comet primary clutch. And a After market or custom driven clutch cam. You got a nice set up there. I think you should restore 100%.

Is that an extended j-arm on the ground?

I have another ody racer that has the wider front end. Also no suspension but a wider axle. Here a pic.

im pretty sure that j-arm on the ground is stock. also my dad says he thinks that is a comet clutch system. ya i plan on restoring it all as best i can. we're gonna do it right. no sense in half-assing it. my motto is "if its worth doing, its worth overdoing". i'll make sure to post some more closeup pics of the motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) and everything. i work for the next few days so it'll be a few before i get some updates up. thanks for the help checkin out my ody. you all have been super helpful. i like your projects too. your last one is sick. looks like a smooth ride.
