Well a friend of mine and nuke em's picked up a fl250 for $150 which i thought wasn't a bad deal, was told it was started with starting fluid (Yes i know ) and we decided to tear down the Engine today... Not terrible... The bore looks clean to me, but the piston has chipped. Before the tear down, we did a compression test of about 90. So that's what leads me to believe the bore is clean, but it also had a broken ring. The bottom end looked clean to me, very very minimal play in the crank, can't find any metal in the bottom end. The dome of the head is pretty dinged and pitted. The ody was rolled and it looks fairly rough, but i think it wasn't a bad deal, it was complete minus fenders. Has a nasty rattle can pain job on it that was pretty dirty. Overall, i still think we did good. I believe the piston is a 75mm? can't remember now. Do they still make art size pistons for these? Does anyone think we can just hone and put a new piston in and run it? it did have a compression of 90 with a broken ring and the piston chip... Thanks for the opinions, the owner of the machine should be registering here soon to read and learn. :-)

Great buy! I will be home Thursday n can take a look. The "chip" that's missing looks a lot like a lean condition and loss of piston material to me. Broken ring is bad, good thing they didnt ride it like that.

I would put another Art or Wiesco in with a honed cylinder. I have a bore gauge in the garage to check the jug for taper n out of round....help yourself. If its straight with no gouges, I would hone n re-use. I would also change all seals n gaskets otherwise you may lean out again when a seal gives it up. my 2 cents or roll the dice!

The purple tube bender/hydaulic ram with straps n boards in the back of the garage is great for fixing the tweaked roll cages. Redneck fixen again. lol

Good luck,
Gary

Oh , need the ATC250R n albums this trip too. St. Anthonys is just around the corner now... :-)

The bore is suprisngly clean. My main culprit for the chip was the starting fluid, but i suppose it could have been lean. looking into a piston, don't suppose any of the 250 guru's may have one? on a budget build to say the least lol.

gary, give me a holler when your in town and i've got 250r and parts in the garage, and i believe your manual too.
