First thing I noticed when I did my 440 swap was that I needed more brakes and then noticed the suspension limits were quickly reached with the new found power :-) Get the front brakes adjusted and working properly your going to need them with my 440 where I use to just get on the front or back brakes to slow I am now using both at the same time to slow.

You have to change your driving style and let off the gas long enough for the weight to shift to the front so you can make steering adjustments you just stay on the gas longer before a turn to make up for letting off the gas you will still be much faster than everybody else.

I picked my Engine specifically for its bottom end torque capabilities most my riding is tight trails I can further enhance its torque by adjusting the intake timing with the rotary valve shifting the power more to low end torque, if I ever decided to race it simply adjust the rotary valve the other way and add two cylinder gaskets under each cylinder to shift the torque up 1000 RPM's :-) with a reed cage Engine or a piston port Engine your stuck with what ever the Engine designers ported it for.

Enjoy!

Congrats Asaszn, That does look like fun. Nothin' like the first time on the pipe, makes all the hard work worth it!

What RPM are you engaging at? Maybe put in a lighter starting primary spring with same finish and that should help tone down the take off and make it more trail worthy. Of course that is assuming your good acrossed the RPM board. Some clutch adjusting should help. However I did have a Yamaha 570 exciter, I believe a 1992 and it was double piped and yea it was a light switch. I purchased it used with the pipes and then sold it after 2 years, my Yamaha friend blamed the "Peaki-ness" (if that's even a word) it on the twin pipes. I would suspect with a single it would be much better low to midrange.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna ride it for awhile and see if I can get used to it. AK, first of all, your build was a constant inspiration to me. I honestly asked myself on a few occasions during fab "how would AK make this look?" I can't begin to imagine what you pilot is like to ride! Mine is engaging pretty low. The problem is the power curve, from engagement to about 4000 rpm it's pretty lazy. Around 4k everything just turns into a blurry mess in front of me.

Hoser, thanks for advice, I'll try your suggestions on my next ride. I completely redid the brakes front and rear including master cyl for front so they aren't a huge issue. The suspension sure was a rough ride but I rode later that day on the same trails on a Scrambler and was getting beat up over the rocks even on that so I think I just need to find better trails.
