Looks like he just created a huge low pressure area by adding the metal panels air box area will be all dust now no air to purge it out..

Nice work Rusty, you adding something to keep the mud off the clutches?

I gotta say, that looks so great! I'd trade for my full plastic set for a well done aluminum body like that... Any takers?

Nice job, keep the pics coming please.

I extended the air cleaner pre-filter to prevent mud from caking up on the filter. When Shoubadaba went to the track with his old pilot, the air filter was totally covered in mud. The extender worked quite well. It will come off when I head to the dunes in 2 weeks.

As for the low pressure area by the pre-filter/airbox lid, it didnt seem to get dusty when I ran it on race day, however the track was kept fairly wet (muddy at times). I will see how it works at the dunes and will see how dust builds up at the sand dunes.

I will hopefully have some action pics of it after St.Patty's day weekend. Hope to turn a few heads at Dumont.

I got my skid plate and nerf bars mounted up. Took the panels off when I was dune riding, they made it harder to climb in and out, which is fine on a race day, but in the dunes I just wanted to slide in and out of the pilot with ease.

Now you need to buff that out like chrome so we can see you during the races.

LOL yeah, had to "edit" the pic for any younger viewers at home. Just imagine the guy who runs up on that sight, if I were to roll on my lid, and he tries to flip me back over!

"Awe, man! Do I really have to touch that!?!?" LOL

I wound up taking the panels off when in the dunes. Takes too long to slide in/out and also holds heat from the exhaust. Didnt seem to hold any dust inside like a low pressure pocket or anything. The nerf bars I got from Halorising, which are ATVRacin bars. The install was sort of hard, didnt want to bolt right in. I assume it is because my frame is slightly tweaked, but I still got them to fit. One problem I encountererd is that they are about an inch too wide on each side to fit in the back of my truck. I will be cutting the ends on an angle and welding them back on to clear my truck bed sides. Also have to re-make the rear add on pieces, the nerf bar mounts conflicted.

Turned out really good Rusty did a great job!

How about the noise I noticed those cars enclosed with tin like that are really loud.

On days over 90 degrees I have to pull the hood off my Pilot to get air flowing it gets so hot in the seat I can imagine you would cook with all yours on.

The noise wasn't so bad. Remember my EEE car? When I rode it in Glamis, it was really loud! I couldnt even hear people yelling into my helmet just sitting there at idle! It was better when I took off the roof and upper rear panels. The thing that got me with the noise in the pilot was when a rock would hit the panels! Scared the crap outta me! I thought I busted a wheel stud or something!
I also need to get some padding for my new Simpson harness. The shoulder straps dug into the crook of my neck. At one point I had to take a break because it hurt so much.

So, the next step with this pilot is to move the radiator. Over at Shoubadaba's house for some fab work. Him and I tore it down yesterday and discovered that the head pipe has cracked along the weld. My other pipe did this as well. I believe they are both ATVRacin pipes, but I could be wrong. My other pipe had the entire flange busted off. This one just has a crack, but still leaked oil all over the place.

Look close is that pipe brazed or welded?

Before you weld you will want to sand blast that coating off....

You can fabricate a no weld radiator locate "kit" out of 3/4 x 1/8" flat stock and by drilling a few holes, your using all the factory holes too.

Here are a few pics, this requires you to cut the radiator mount off the frame of the Pilot, assume your doing this anyways?

One of these days I need to remove mine and radius the corners then paint they have proven to work perfectly :-) Might even drill a series of lightening holes in them to shave a little unnecessary weight.

I think the pipe is brazed. The last one that broke looked like a copper color. Shoubadaba was able to weld it back up with his MIG and it has held up good. I like the idea of the no weld relocate, however Shoubs is going to use his tube bender and welder and fab up a relocate style that allows the use of the stock radiator shroud and rock guard. PPP has this style on 2 of his pilots and it looks great.

Pics of this setup?

Mine uses OEM rock guard but not the air scoops to keep it protected inside the cage for the next flip and roll they were omitted :-)

Made some progress today. I got the radiator bar remove and new one welded in. I also removed the paint from the roll cage where the new mount will weld up do

Sweat! I got a fuel filter on order from Service Honda. Last time I pulled the carb apart there was some crud in the bowl. I used some gas and shook out the old fuel filter and quite a bit of sand came out. Also putting in new fuel lines, the old ones were dry rotted and cracked. Amazing how honda fuel lines last so long, yet the black reinforced fuel lines rot fairly fast. This pilot already had the stock fuel lines replaced with some black lines. My other pilot still has the stock honda fuel lines and no problems to speak of.
