Hey guys, I'm brand new to the odyssey family. But today, I bought a 85 fl250 with a 85 challenger frame and it has a rotax 503 Engine on it, it runs good but I'm needing some help with some questions. I kinda wanna restore it to an original fl250 but keep the challenger frame. Its in sort of rough shape.

Also, the kill switch doesn't work, what does the black button do on the steering wheel? The gas line leaks, what size line do I need to get to replace it? And its missing the pod filters? What is a pod filter and what's a price on those?

Restore it to original fl250 would be really hard at this point with rear suspension and all. Get it runnig well and see how you like it.

Take the fuel line off and go get the same size at the auto store. Black botton is electric start or kill switch maybe.

Can you take better pics of the front suspension and rear clutches and Engine area? Also take lots more pics. I would like to check this one out. To me it looks like a challenger rear section with a custom front suspension. Here is Hoser old Challenger.

What do you want to return to fl250? the Engine? or whole car? The only thing left of the fl250 is the transmission and steering wheel. Are you looking for an all stock fl250? Did your car come with all the body panels?

I paid $850 for it.
And what is in the picture is what came with it. I'm clueless to what parts I need.

Looks to me that ride has some extras done to it for sure. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to our community!

Thanks! Does anybody know why the back wheels are tilted like they are, and should they be like that?

I would love to restore this one. Nice find and buy. Any chance at locating the original Engine? You should follow the last owners at all cost trying to find it.

Can I ask about your coat in the first pic? Is that an Philippine coat? The reason I ask is my wife is Filipina...

I have to ask. Are you close to Oregon? Would you trade a sweet FL250 for it? All restored and ready to go. I have two to chose from. Here some pics. I have complet build logs on youtube of each restore. I spent a lot of money and time restoring these. All new and rebuilt parts. One all stock with Electric start. The other with a 83 Yamaha inticer sled Engine. POR15 paint. New everything.

I would love to add this to my collection of vintage Odyssey's

Bighead- As bad as I like those odys, I want to keep this one and work on it. Do you blame me? Lol. And no, I do not live close to Oregon, I live in West Virginia. And also, I'm not sure what kind of coat that is, I will have to check. But quick question- guesstimate me a price of a total restore this would cost me?

And it is a fan motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )), it will definitely fly. It's a rotax 503. I wish I could put a reverse in this buggy. I believe I will have to redo all of the wiring. I drove about 300 miles to get this bad boy, I hope to get it fixed soon before riding season.

Does the air cool setup on these rotax motors sufficiently cool them in the summer time??

I do not blame you for keeping it. It a gem IMO.

About the restore? I am not sure what thse all had originaly. It looks like you have some duel rate shocks. How do those work? With my yellow vintage racer the shock are the most costy in the restore. They are Works and Ohline shocks though. If I had it I would use POR15 to paint it. Or powder coat it for a few hundred bucks? Are all the wheels good with no damage? When they put the sled Engine in did they do good work or is it shobby? Can you post pics of the mounts and some of the welds? Are the bearing and stuff tight or sloppy? Depending on all that will factor restore cost.

I see paint wiring and some elbow grease to have a very nice ride. Tearing this car down down would be pretty easy. Not much there really. I would also get some body panels like they had originaly. That would up the value and looks big time. even that wing if you got the bank.

I would do all the research you can and try to find out whats original and whats not. And what has all been done to it mod wise. Then go from there. Or even see if you can find any of the pro atv guys. Perhaps they have pics. How many of these cars were made?

Here are some of my other cars.

The Engine work in my opinion is good work.
What honestly needs done is:

rewiring the throttle and brake
The front axles are off. The right wheel is not centered.
Is the back wheels suppose to be tilted like they are in the pictures?
It needs a new seat and a rack and pinion steering (that was suggested)
And I would like to put a reverse and emergency brake on it.
It needs a new gas line and can you see where those bags are? It needs those filters put on. I think they are called POD filters?

Also post pics of any welds that broke and were rewelded. Pics of any thing funky in the front end.

Yes the rear axle are normal like that.

What brand shocks does it have?

Get those pics tomorrow ASAP. I feel as I should just strip it down to the frame and put it back together rightly. But I have no manual, so I kinda fear doing that also.

Do you have welder and fab skills? I see some gloppy welding up front? Yah take a host of pics tomorrow.

I see some welding done on the trans case as well. Not big deal but just spotted it.

No I do not. The previous owner did the welding and put on the new Engine himself.

Theres a lot of welding spots on this frame.

Yah you need to post pics of the mounts and the front end where I see that funky weld. Can you take a vid of it going down your block? I am wondering how the belts match up and how it shifts. Does it run strong. Has it been riding hard since the sled Engine was put in? How does the belt look? Lots to factor in here.

I will take all that tomorrow. It takes a second for it to slip into gear when I hit the throttle, but the throttle sticks also. I think one of the Rods on the back wheel is bent though. I think I can re adjust it. It in honestly, rides good and starts right up. I just wish the kill switch worked and had electric start. The previous owner told me he rode it before and it rode just the same as it does now, which isn't bad. It just needs the steering fixed and I think somee air in the tires lol.

And the belt turns good.
