Well this is my first attempt to rebuild a Pilot Engine. I Had a thread going about restoring a 89 pilot, but in stripping the frame I found rust thru on the frame and a really bad tweak in the rear frame. So I literally shelved the frame and found another pilot with half an Engine, no exhaust tweaked upper cage but a straight lower frame. Everything was in really good shape other then that. I took the Engine from the 1st pilot that hoser rebuild and hosersized and installed it in the new frame. Everything is going good on the pilot. Now I want to rebuild the Engine I have from pilot 2. Got a cylinder finally getting sleeved. Pretty sure I have everything to do it. Got the case split finally. Crank out would like to have it rebuilt. The Engine sat with no cylinder for years just a piston sticking out. So you can imaging the crap that settled in the case. Rust on the bearings as well. Slight rust on the crank but not as bad as I thought it would be. Well right now the crank bearings are in the case halves. Not sure the best way to get them out without damaging anything. Any help would be helpful. Pics to follow.

I think those bearings should be usable

good luck on the rebuild! Hopefully alot of the rust on the crank is just surface rust.

I hate when that happens wish they would have filled the bottom end up with Engine oil to protect it, they did 500.00-700.00 damage by not dumping a quart of oil in it what a shame.

At the very least it needs all new bearings and the rod replaced first check would be the surfaces on the crank where the seals ride they all pitted up?

Is that a 89 or 90 Engine?

The Engine is a '89. The pics are worse then they really are. When I got home with it. I dumped alot of oil in the crank case. worked it around. I don't see any pitting on the crank where the seals ride. I have a rod kit for it.

Need to get the water pump impeller off to get the shaft out. what is the best way to hold the shaft to get the nut off the end? With the hoses off the Engine like they were I can not at least make sure there isnt any crap in there. So how do you hold the shaft to get the stubburn nut off there?

Thanks

the waterpump shaft has a slot in the end of it............find a flat piece of metal that fits the slot, put the metal in a vice, engage the slot and remove the 10mm nut on the impellar.....
