Hi all -

Add me to the expanding list of Norcal area FL350 owners. Recently bought my first machine off CL and am just getting into it. I have spent the last 3 weeks lurking and going through old posts and the amount of info on the site is just awesome! I am sort of familiar with 2 strokes from my kart racing days of long ago, but probably only know enough to get me into trouble.

This machine is not running and had supposedly not ran for 2-3 years. The former owner said the last time they tried to run the machine the Engine wouldn't start and he thought it was due to a cracked intake manifold. The pink rattle-can paint job is a real winner! (Well maybe not so bad as this is mainly for my daughter). But for $600 you cant expect a whole lot. Here is what I got so far that needs repair: missing plastic steering column covers, cracked intake manifold, hanging fuel pump, dead battery, cracked fuel lines and pulse tube, redneck tie rod (1 made out of 3/4" square steel rod), missing airbox (there was a K&N filter mounted to intake tube), and 1 busted shifter cable.

I just want to get the thing running for now so my kids can buzz around our place. After that I will explore a more in-depth rebuild. A couple of immediate questions I have are do I need a water pump for the cooling system and will the aftermarket (I think) carb work on a stock intake manifold. I attached some pics so your experienced eyes can tell me what else is wrong or missing! Thanks in advance for the help.

You don't need a water pump because your cooling system is set up using the thermosyphon principal. Hot water rises and cold water sinks so the water will naturally circulate in your head automatically.

You need to get that gas tank inside the roll cage!

Take a pic inside your intake looks like you have as much dirt inside the carb and Engine as you do on the outside, where is the air box/filter?

Whats with the cable I bet you will find dirt on top of the carb slide.

Whats with the boot by the carb looks like a defect by the red arrow.

Looking at the dirt stuck to the carb body your a candidate for a prefilter setup on that machine.

If that was my machine I would seal up the intake really good then wash the Engine good then pull the carb and reed cage look for dirt ingestion before running the Engine.

I would also go through the carb and make sure the entire fuel system is clean, no water or dirt in any part of the system.

Cant beat the price you paid for the 350, you need to lose the K&N filter setup not sure if you found this one yet when you were lurking on the site. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5491

Others can show you the proper filter setup for the 350 if you want to put dirt ingestion worries to a rest.
