My older brother and I just got a pretty beat up old 1979 ody for 300 bucks, was sitting in a field for a year or so not running. The pull start was shot, as well as a bad kill switch according to the previous owner. Finished rebuilding the pull start and rewired the kill switch last night which was loads of fun (My brother is not the most patient guy when it comes to working on things... he is more the use a hammer to make it fit kind of guy). We tried starting it and got it to run for about 5 minutes then it died. looking at the fuel pump and carb now. Can't wait to get this thing running, will post before and after pics when we get it all rebuilt and done up :-)

Welcome to the boards!!! much love you will find here to all, glads you found this site It has saved me much fuss and hassel! Like I was told when I joined with my first 250 pics are worth a thousand words, pics help allot! the more detailed the better! know and love your bikes for what they are and what they where, when it comes to the odysseys, they where generations ahead of time, simple, most problems are from age, but when you get the bugs worked out they are tanks!! patience is a virtue, cut corner's and you will regret it just like all thing's! still learning myself but dident we all start that way?

with both my 250's first thing I did was pull the plugs, drain the gas, replace fuel filter, check tank for rust, drain reduction case and inspect the oil good (shimmer on surface) ground wire from frame to starter, replace filter, check compression, strong spark, pull the steering wheel cover and carefully check the wireing to the kill switch, most importantly replace your hose/filter in your airbox, most of the old oddys I have seen have the original 20+ year old filter that crumbles when you touch, note your supposed to clean clean clean them, and old filters usually means carb clogging etc. bad stuff and the gravity dosent help cause it helps feed the dirt right in! pics pics pics! lets see it!
