Post subject:  making an fl350 air cooled to water cooled cylinder

This is a continuing project.
Starting my water cooled cylinder project so here are some pics.
Will post more as I progress.
I first tried to do it in the milling machine/lathe but my machine is a bit small. There
was a lot of movement in the ways so I decided to do it in the drill press. Made a mount
out of 8" channel.

why so thick with the aluminum round piece, i know my bv cylinder is thin. tap it with a hammer and it would dent it..

The aluminum is that thick because that is the thickness of a 6" aluminum pipe, and
that's all the machine shop had anyways.

If hoses don't clear I can put 90's on.
Bore don't know. But gona take it to mongoose to get rebored. The cylinder has a nice shiny coat
of liquid aluminum from the piston melting on the last poofkaboom.

You get some muratic acid and a old tooth brush, take the cylinder to a well ventilated area and put the acid just on the aluminum part of the cylinder it will eat off the aluminum, if the acid runs down on the cylinder it will eat it too but wont hurt the steel , keep putting it on until the aluminum is gone, the cylinder will want to rust as it dries so dry it and oil it ASAP, with in minutes NOT after supper. http://www.pilotodyssey.com/PO/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9843&start=0

Not going to tell you all the safety precautions you need to take when working with acid.

Nice to have baking soda around when working with aluminum.

Many times all that is needed is the aluminum removed from the cylinder then hone it but you never know until its cleaned up and measured.
