Where's a good source for replacement FL350 head gaskets? I just order three base gaskets from speedchaser but now I need the top ones.

If you have the factory three piece gasket, you can simply use one of the previously used thin pieces and bump up your compression for a little extra power.

All you need to do is make sure that the piece you use is flat and not damaged, clean, and thoroughly de-greased. Then you can spray it with Permatex copper aerosol sealant, just follow the directions on the can.

He has the straight fin head. Didn't they already have higher compression? Don't know if he should bump it up even more?

Exactly!!! I'm going to do a compression test in the coming days and find out what the numbers are. The engines are new...so the gaskets are fresh and unmolested. I'm changing out the base gaskets for certain.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes if the stock gasket is not damaged I would reuse it also, use the copper coat spray on it.

After looking at the pictures you posted of the engines, the gaskets have not been heated and the original factory coating is still in place. No need to purchase a new gasket if the Engine has never been operational. If you do decide to split the gasket and use just one thin section of the whole set, the you should coat both sides of the gasket with the Permatex.

If memory serves me right, the difference with compression between the original head and the recall head was 15 psi (153 v/s 138 psi). Using only one of the three gasket pieces might get you close to the need for using race gas but I doubt it. Compression is only going to raise a little less than 10 psi. You should check to see what the squish band is before you do a final re-assembly.

Edit.....

The base gasket are a must change out. They had a bead of sealant which ran round the sealing are of the gasket. Once that seal is broken, the gasket is done. You definitely want to use the gasket sealant on the lower Speed Chaser gasket..... nice product by the way Speed.

The compression is pretty much dead on.
