I've been eyeing this place for awhile and thinking of a summer trip here. Perhaps coupled with some other ride spots in the Rockies. Basically, this is in western Colorado...beautiful area and about 4 hours from Denver.

This is the park and where to camp. Not too far off of I-70. http://parks.state.co.us/Parks/Vega/

Park map: http://parks.state.co.us/NR/rdonlyres/A ... reaBro.pdf

Early Settlers campground map. Nice location at the trailhead and close to the lake w/ what I would assume are nice views. Water/electric hook ups and showers/flush toilets. http://parks.state.co.us/NR/rdonlyres/D ... S_C520.pdf

Overview of the close-in riding...note: square blocks on this map are 5x5 miles. http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/gmug/recreation ... V_4_01.pdf

Another area nearby that is supposed to be conencted, but I have not found that map yet...I believe it is part of teh Gunnison National Forest...more research soon. http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/gmug/recreation ... l_back.pdf

I think most of these trails/roads are old logging and forest fire roads so they should be wide enough for our buggies...

Who wants to go? Late summer would be the best time for weather.

You have my attention...

What will you be taking to ride?

How much further is MOAB from this place?

How many days do you think needs to be spent their?

Hoser - I'd take the Drak no doubt. Just need to see some pics of the trails or find someone who has been there before I'd commit.

Moab is 150 miles from here. This area is just SE of Grand Junction and Moab is just past the state line, most of the drive being on I-70.

Days at Vega? Dunno...need to figure out really how much riding can be had..."they say" hundreds of miles of trails and I would not doubt it if it is 1,000 or more. basically, the trail structure starts here and is interlaced w/ BLM, National Forests and State lands heading south out of Vega down to Montrose. I think you could probably go east most of the way to Aspen. Like I mentioned, there are some missing maps because many of these trails continue out of teh main area shown in the first trail map I listed. If it is anything like opther areas in Colorado there are scores of spurs heading off in every direction from teh main numbered trails.

I'll do some more research soon and see what maps I can dig up.

Hey Hoser, while your Pilot should go most places up there, you might be happier on your quad as the elevation varies drastically, and it should taker less jetting and tuning. Bring both and catch some sand while you are out west. From Moab, you could go north to Killpecker and then back home on I-80 ,making a nice circular trip.

Count me in....

Place looks Perfect...

Late Summer works GREAT....

We can ride ATV's morning and night and Jump in the lake when its hot...
(2 mile lake - so who is bringing the boat)

I'm guessing we should also get camping reservations...

PS
Is is Summer Yet...

Dennis
