Post subject:  440 ROTAX Engine #1 CSI

Here are some autopsy pics of my 440 Engine #1 I was running at Killpecker and some of the St Anothy trip.

Drakman FL670 and I (where were you? ) took a trip down to the far west end of St Anothy in search of 'choke cherry' hill after Dennis went up and over choke cherry hill and toasted his belt I noticed my Engine was off its mark a bit, it was not as crisp as it use to be sometimes it made a noise that would give you the feeling a wrist pin bearing was bad, at idle it was weak and rough it sounded like it wanted to die not idle so after playing on the west end and it was getting dark we decided to head back I set a good pace back to camp trying to nurse it no WOT (Wide Open Throttle) up the tall dunes stuff I didnt feel like having to tow it off the dunes in the dark or leave it setting their all night, each time I would stop to wait for Drakman and FL670 to catch up it sounded worse and worse so when I got back decided to change the Engine and install my spare I bought off evilbay.

Below are some internal pics, I didnt find any bad bearings just one piston with blow by and the plating missing from one side of the piston ring, cheap crap you would think after 28 years and a unkown amount of miles the rings would be like new heh

The replacement 440 Engine locked up on the last day (autopsy that one next) Dennis and I went out for a ride headed for the West end of the dunes again, the 670 pulled me back to camp I made a video it was a fun ride to say the least I wish I had the camera rolling for the whole way back Dennis scared the shit out of me more than once  Picture this your hooked to another's Pilot and it disappears over a hill you cant see the bottom of, the rope goes slack then all the sudden TIGHT you see the tow Pilot's flag thrashing and shaking violently then the rope stops stretching and your off over the unknown hill at break neck speed YEEEE HAAA oh shit Dennis I got front and rear brakes on and am not slowing down, just about the time my front bumper kisses his rear he catches some traction and gets out of my way but the ride is not over yet now he has 10' of slack to take up again lmao My only thought then was Dennis Pilot will look good wearing my front bumper on the back of his Pilot, well the bumper held and we were off to the races me laughing my ass off all the way..

Yea that was one heck of a ride... (Even from the pulling vechile)

I was bound and determined to keep the machines moving and a few times I found none of my tires were on the ground and I thought this might not be good...

BTW - I don't think I've ever seen anyone laugh so hard as when I finially stopped to make sure Hoser was still with me....

I hope the pilot cam caught some of this action :-) :-)

I can't wait to see some of that video. Will it have audio of you squeeling like a school girl going off the blind dunes? LMAO

Do all the sled engines use a single ring piston? Never rebuilt one, or at least recently.
