Carnage from the Glamis trip...

Drakman and I were taking a run down sand hwy. we started from the south end of Gecko rd. where we were camped, we made it 14.1 miles, I had just passed Drakman and caught a whiff of Engine oil it seem strange I smelled it after passing him not before so I stopped to see where it was coming from, I got out and seen oil all over my Engine and trans, after looking real close I could see it was coming out the input shaft of my trans.

I removed the gas tank and rinsed off some of the sand while it was drying I took some pics.

Blue arrow is pointing to the seal

Yellow is where you have to notch the trans for clearance

Green is where I removed material from the back of the helix.

Drakman towed me back to camp with his Tiger, it was a great tow truck too!

At the least the input bearing and seal is history, I didnt drive it any more for the trip I am now just getting around to doing the autopsy to see what the damage is, I will be pulling the Engine and trans then taking the trans apart, stay tuned for more pics and hopefully not too much internal damage

So I guess I should start looking for another ride to bring with me everywhere... LOL

I do have this though...

ebay Item number: 160089824675

I need to get a spare Engine someday too...
I would hate to be a 1000 miles from home and then have to quit all my fun...

Spare parts and rides are a must!

I rode the 400EX and my TRX250R for the rest of the trip, I enjoy the quads just about as much as the Pilot so it was not a big deal, I wish I had brought my 3 wheeler also :-)

That trans looks like a good buy. You're gonna need an extra trailer to haul all the parts you seem to be collecting.

I don't recall a brace on the Pilot transmission imput shaft, with the extra HP you now have, do you think it might be a good idea to work one as you put it back together?

H, I do have a question on your bearing failure. When your drive runs out is it bottoming out the driven causing undo stress on the bearings or is there enough slack in the drive run out to take up stress. The heliux look like it was running out all the way.

The heliux stops look damaged or was it just because of the bearing failure.

I installed a small fuel filter on the case breather to keep out dust, anybody else do this?

I still need to clean up the parts and look at each one with a magnifying glass for damage but right now it looks like all I need is all new bearings and seals..

Your about 19 years too late.

It’s a little bit scary to think about the balls sitting down in the bottom of the case while you got towed back, that big gear keeps on turning.
