Mudbogger bought a Pilot from CO. it came equipted with a K&N and a pre charger.
Here is a K&N cleaning tip, I usually wrap the K&N filters in paper towel and rubber bands then let them set a few days this leaches out most the filter oil and makes cleaning faster, easier, cheaper, this pic also shows that this filter in fact was still oiled yet passed all this sand, its hard to see in the pic but the paper towel is soaked with oil.
Here is after the filter, this is the tube that goes between the Pilots air box and carb, you can see the oil that is sucked off the filter and stuck to the rubber tube then the sand is stuck to the oil.
I rinsed out the inside of the boot with carb cleaner, real fine sand, the size that goes right past the Pre Charger, more flow more dirt and sand flows by the filter, need more flow GET A FILTER WITH LARGER SURFACE AREA...
Thanks to the the K&N filter equipped with a Pre Charger the carb slide is toast
Below on the right is what the above carb slide should look like even after 20 years of use if it don't then the filter was passing dirt.
