Here is Harescrambles K&N filter, Mr. Maintenance, a great example why you NEED a pre filter setup.

I wonder if anything has been getting past the filter?

Yup, didnt see that one coming did you, hey you know "the dirtier the filter gets the better it filters" K&N filters are good for ON-road applications or you better have a serious prefilter setup.
