This little diamond in the rust will be my next long term project. It likely hasn't been on the road in 25 years and was born just a base model 6cyl sport coupe in Nantucket Blue with Black Standard Interior. It is as plain jane as they come so basically a blank canvas I can do anything with. Plan is to build the car and put it up for sale probably next spring.. I just got it home with it and the wind is blowing like a damn tornado right now so these are just some quick pics..

Cool, looking forward to this. That was my first car, gold with a black vinyl top. Is that D door as mangled as it looks in the pic? |

It's not to bad, just some idiot hacked the inner structure for a speaker somewhere in its past. I have a good pair 67 doors in my hoard should I need them. |

After multiple trips to the carwash to pressure wash the inside & gallons of bleach, I can finally stand to be within 20' of this thing. I think every mouse in three states must have lived in this damn car at one time or another because the smell was unbearable... I started by pulling the glass and looks like it will need the top of the dash replaced as well as the trunk filler panel. I've already received the replacement dash but the trunk filler is on back order. This car was born a nothing special plain jane 6cyl Sport Coupe so I opted to go with just quarter skins over full quarters, but also grabbed outer wheelhouses and trunk drop offs and got started on the passenger side. All the new metal is AMD except the left quarter skin which is Sherman. This car is another good example of what first looks too be just a small amount of rust is always much, much worse than it appears. Started welding the new metal, the passenger side is about 80% welded in I still need to finish up the butt weld in the jam and of course all the grinding. I guess that's it as of now.. |

Find a 6.0 or a 6.2 with the OD trans turn into a daily driver, the new 6.2 is 420 hp 460 torque Bet you could pull 15+mpg too. |

Hey man, making some progress!! Im with Hoser, do you have a classic daily driver? Its nice to drive a classic but not a trailer queen imo, im always paranoid some douche is gonna plow into me and then, like the pilots, trying to find parts to rebuild... . I actually enjoy driving the hoopties rather than the "restored" classics. Hope you don't mind me hijacking but I bought this old hooptie "63 Mercury a few months ago, its not perfect so it makes a good driver for me, don't have to worry bout idiots hitting me in it, its a cruiser but wont win any trophies unles most original. The TA was the last car before the Mercury I bought it to flip, too nice to drive:(

I drove my Yellow 68 SSRS Camaro with the 427 in it on a 600 mile trip up into Colorado 2 weeks ago and got 17.3 mpg. Never saw that coming.. kind of expected to get 12mpg. viewtopic.php?f=96&t=14649 |

I agree nothing like classic and even though this car is far from a show a car but I still worry about the idiots out there on their cell phone or the possibility of it getting stolen when left in a parking lot. That's a nice clean looking TA you have there, very nice! Also the 63 Merc is pretty cool also, I have a 63 Comet waiting for it's turn in the sun. It's a factory 260/4speed car that's been off the road since the late 80's but I will get to it one of these days.. Famous last words. lol.. |

I got them from a Comet. I thought the stock Monterey lens were dull, and the Comet lens bolted right on |

that's pretty cool I had no idea they were the same. Here are a few update pictures on the 67.. I got the welds on the right quarter ground down and it just needs to be stripped and shot with epoxy & then I should be able to start the body work on it. Started on the left side & Holy Bondo Batman.. what a mess. I bought a new Trunk drop off for this side also but it didnt use it. The original is very solid with just some surface rust and some very slight pitting so I just cleaned it up. The quarter is only about 80% welded, I just ran a grinder over it too make it easier to fill in all the areas that still need to be welded. The top rear of the quarter was hit pretty hard somewhere in it's life and honestly should have got a full quarter on this side. I dug 1/4 to 5/16 thick bondo off the top portion and tried to beat it back into submission before welding the skin on it. It didn't play nice but I'm hoping now it's welded & more ridged it may be a bit easier to work with.. |

Looking good! Any issues with the car being on the roto and cutting so much metal off? I remember my first ATTEMPT at a door skin on a 67 Camaro. I pulled the door and set it on a bench and ground the edge, popped the skin off. Bent the new one on and thought it looked fantastic....until I bolted it back up and saw the twisted mess I made! LOL. I was in HS, still learnin. |

Thank you. No the car has good solid frame rails and floor and since Im just doing one side at a time it's not really a concern. over the years I've done a few cars this way with no problems so it should be fine. I hear you & I still remember my first door skin. Same thing... looked great on the stand and when I bolted it back on the car... Oh $hit!!! |

A little more progress.. Ruffed in the filler on the left quarter.. Replaced a section of the window channel on the passenger side. Sectioned in a strip on the trunk filler to replace the rusted rear window channel.. It's just tacked in right now but looks like it fits well. I debated on just replacing the full panel but a lot of the repo's are formed wrong on the arch where it meets the deck lid and I didn't want to have to correct an ill fitting trunk gap, so I took the easy way out. Also just getting started on removing the undercoating from the floor. This by far the thing I hate the most of any build as this $hit is just a damn mess. It also appears I will need to replace the left side rear floor pan as it's full of pin holes. :( |
