Thanks, I usually just run a 1 inch piece of tape right on the body line & use it as a guide to make the cut. Then on the new panel do the same but this time cut it in the middle of the tape. That gives me a good quick starting point on the cuts that I can fine tune as I need. My beveling tool puts about a half inch bevel on the panel so when its cut its very close to being dead on, plus the bevel adds a little rigidity to the panel which helps with warping. |

Got a couple of hours this afternoon so I started on the driver side..   The original trunk drop off was in great shape so I mocked up the outer wheelhouse and am now ready to start trimming the new Quarter...  Thankfully the rocker is solid so this side should go pretty quick..

Nailed down the quarter today, still needs a little more fine tuning but overall the fit is very nice..

I guess it's been a while since I have posted any progress on this turd. Replaced the driver side floor pan..   Replaced the rusted dash..    Epoxy Primed the whole car top to bottom inside & out..  Followed up with some 2K High Build..     There was a little more, but that's basically where the car is as of now... |

Some people on this site are very skilled. It appears you are a very skilled sheet metal worker. I guess we are all good at something in our lives. The trick is to figure out what it is we are good at. Very nice work -- it's factory quality in my opinion. |

Well I guess it's been a few months so maybe time for an update.. I completely tore down the front subframe and sand blasted everything and went back with a new disc brake kit, all new front suspension and Power steering..   I added a spoiler to the original trunk lid that belonged in the trash. I ended up having to skim coat the entire trunk lid to get it straight and until it's blocked a few times it might not be. lol..   The driver side door was pretty clean aside from a few small dents so I didn't really bother taking any pictures. The passenger side had some rust in the frame and skin that needed removed. I just made a couple quick patch panels out of some scrap to repair it.    Mounted both doors and moved onto the front fenders.  The fenders that came with the car were junk  I've had these in my hoard so I will use them on the car. They are good original GM with just minor damage.   mocked up the front end..   New AMD ZL-2 hood is just sitting in the opening, still need to work the hinges and latch..   I guess that's about it for now, once I can get the hood primed & mounted, I'll start blocking the car for paint. I was leaning towards going LeMans Blue, but the family wants me to shoot it in Black. We shall see I guess... lol.. |

I guess it's time for another update.. Nothing too awful exciting, just a lot of Priming & blocking.     The car is now in it's final prime and I'm ready to start painting the dash & jams this upcoming week..    If this crazy weather will cooperate I should be able to wet sand and shoot the color the first week in March. The car was originally born Ash Gold with a Black Vinyl top & Black D90 stripe. I kind of wanted to paint it Lemans Blue with White D90 but have since decided to do something a little different & go with the original colors but in reverse. I am still going to leave the Vinyl top off, but shoot it Tuxedo Black with an Ash Gold D90. Hopefully it will be a stand out a being a little different than the norm.. |
