Post subject:  FL800 brake rotor mounting mod.

Spent the weekend swapping out the short, flush mounted countersunk socket head screw/bolts for the brake rotor.
Last 2 events at Byford, then Northam, had loose bolts. But the Northam event actually lost one of the rotor bolts, and the front bottom RPM trans mount bolt as well.
I could hear lots of scary shit metal bangin',clangin' sounds on rear end braking for the turns.
No wonder, with the rotor bolts loosening up,and the RPM trans on one less mount bolt.
I'd tried loctiting before, but no good.So decided to use longer bolts/screws which thread into the rotor mount plate,+ using nylocs at ends.
Trouble is,bugger all room between the inside rotor face and RPM trans casing.
Had to go up 2 sizes in bolt length to provide enough thru thread for the nyloc intercourse!
Other trouble was,too long a bolt would'nt handle the angle neede to get in enough to the rotor hole.
Had to use long nose, long handle pliers to angle it all up there and into the rotor hole. Then when in,had to lever against the trans casing to line up the bolt pre-thread.
HOW do you do all that PLUS turn it to thread?
Decided to drill a small hole in the end of shaft, for a screw extractor, plus thin blade cut a + into the end for a flat blade,or phillips screwdriver.
So when all lined up from within the gap of the rotor and trans case, screwdriver levering the bolt into the hole, then inserted a small diameter phillips driver thru the rotor mount plate and turning
anti-clockwise the bolt tight. Then, added a S/S washer and nyloc nut to secure.
Worked well, but very time consuming...ate into a lot of beer o'clock time!!!

This saved me from dissasembling everything out to secure the rotor more substantially.

Nice work, I would use loctite also.

Whats with the welded bracket on the trans was that a mod to fit the Pilot?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was already on when Ak bought it from Utah?
I think the previous owner made it?

Imagine the power,it's like this...it's intoxicating! :-)

If you mean the C bracket/plate welded to the tranny rear/bottom,it's for the Pilot caliper.
Tranny is a RPM,Ak had to mount the Pilot caliper on opposite side of tranny-RHS- to std Pilot-LHS-,and consequently upside down.
