Post subject:  Briggs Car Resto

I decided it was time to clean up the briggs car a bit. Stripped it down to the cage, cleaned and repainted. The black paint always looked dirty and had to go. Made all new bushings for the a arms and trailing arms. Rebuilt the steering rack, installed a slip yoke on the steering column to eliminate the binding that I always had. Made an entirely new wiring harnes with weather pack connectors, new dash panels and gauges. Rebuilt all the cv joints. Topped it all off with a 2001 polaris 700 twin big block motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )). This required me to make all of my own brackets for an electric start motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) and a custom two into one exhaust manifold to mate up to the expansion pipe. I did away with my dual radiator set up and used a radiator from a 3cyl geo metro. I reworked the Engine mounting plate to make clutch tuning easier. With the old 500 set up I had to remove the Engine to change the clutch. The new set up allows me to remove two 3/8 nuts and the Engine will pivot up enough to allow me to remove the clutch. Of course I still have to remove the mounting bolts for the silencer and the three bolts for the radiator which slides over to allow for the clearance. Here are some pics of the early stages. I'll post more soon.

Looks nice Mark - will the new Briggs car be making her initial run at ECJ in April?

It should be making its initial run at the ECJ. Nothing like spending 3 1/2 yrs working all the bugs out of it and then tearing it down and starting over. Here are some more pics of it just about all back together. Still waiting on my works shocks to come back for the front. They've been sitting at works for a couple of weeks with no return phone calls.

Looks petty tough! How wide is that thing? The rear view really looks wide with those tires on it.

wow...that's a really cool GO-CART. You build that yourself??

jk - Looks awesome...can't wait to see that 700 kill some hillclimbs in MD!

I think the rear is 72-74 inches wide. A bit wider than a Pilot/Ody.

Mark and I got to do some test & tune runs this past weekend. Here's a clip of Mark's Briggs with the 700 in it. That thing is SICK! I hopped in and punched it...all I saw was sky and the front wheels as I stood it up on the ass end in the dirt!

But I won't steal all Mark's thunder and let him post the ride report and progress.

Check out the vid...(hoser, if you want, I can FTP the good quality clips if you know somewhere better than youtube to show them)

Yo Mark that hing is crazy....can we put that motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) in my pilot...lol

Author:  King Kx [ Wed Apr 11, 2007 7:30 pm ]

We can put anything you want in that pilot if you have time and patience. This set up allows me to drop my 500 Engine right back in with minimal changes in case I blow this one up on a trip. Air box, carbs, exhaust, Engine mounting, belt and wiring are all interchangeable. It was a definate rush the first time a mashed the go fast pedal and went overbackwards in a barrel roll, (bent up the roof and side scoop). The harness held me comfortably for about 7 mins until brooks and his dad were able to get me back on the wheels.
