No! Even if you clean it up, It will only gall again and do more damage to the cylinder and possibly the lower end. Saving a 100 bucks on a piston is not worth the additional carnage.

$185for the piston now
Wiesco went up

If it diddnt have the gall above the rings or on the ridges I would have concidered using it

The olny pistons I have ever reused are ones on some old Honda dirt bikes and three wheelers that were in spec still

Yep, it's scrap. You will stick a ring or two and fry your jug.

Call "Jason" at the parts counter at Honda East of Toledo. They've had the best prices on Wiseco and factory piston kits compared to ebay as well as any of the online dealers I've found. http://www.hondaeasttoledo.com/ And they're on eastern standard time.

Before Honda East, in 2011 I bought two 80mm kits for the FL350R for $149.96 ea from Jawzy's M0t0rsports: http://www.jawzys.com/servlet/the-13344 ... nda/Detail

On second thought...Honda East looks to be north of $200 for FL350 kits. Maybe its the Suzuki stuff I buy from them (?). Try Jawzy's. They're batting 1.000 with my orders! :-)

Your memory is spot on viewtopic.php?f=26&t=10347

Heck yeah I would reuse it in a second clean it up remove all the high spots how are the rings, we decided to reuse Nellys so we could trouble shoot the problem that caused the failure the plan was run it until we were 100% the problem was fixed and to monitor the static compression and replace the piston and rings after the compression started to drop or after the piston had the normal hrs of use before you change one.

don't let me or anybody else catch you reusing the piston then trying to sell the ODY you will receive a good beating :-) you been around enough I think I can trust you wont do something that dumb lol

You know the risk involved in reusing the piston the choice is yours be sure to REPLACE the circlips you removed I never try to reuse them....

What caused the poofkaboom give us the history on this machine please.

Found it, viewtopic.php?f=26&t=10347&hilit=scuffed+piston" .".." ."..

I wouldn't throw it out with how hard its getting to find parts, its an older weisco with the sides cut out, i would clean it up, make sure ring grooves are clean and rings move freely, drill lube holes in it, and make sure you relieve the exhaust bridge.

MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING WHEN YOU CLEAN IT UP don't TRY IT IF YOU don't HAVE A CLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the best way to clean it up?

Don't plan on selling any thing at the moment so don't worry abought that :-)

I don't know the history on the machine I bought the cylinder on eBay and it came with the piston

Start with 220 grit sand paper and sand it out and then move up to 320 then 400 and so on. Sand cross ways to the scratches.

I would use a small flat file on the highest spots first before sanding, (a real small file) I don't know what they are called maybe a Jewelers file? And lightly file the high spots then sand to blend it all in, I would use the same small, fine, flat file to lightly clean up the ring grooves and make sure there is no debris or tight spots, (roll the out side of the ring around the ring groove first to test the groove that way your not putting the ring on and off a bunch of times.

The files usually come in a kit of like 3 or 4, 1 flat, 1 round, 1 half round, 1 flat about 1/4" wide by 3" long.

needle files here in AUS, but a trick to make sure you don't file a flat spot, don't push the file handle through on the same plane, as you push the file through push the handle down at the same time.
