Little Sahara - Waynoka Oklahoma October 20-21, 2005
I sat at home all day Wednesday waiting for the storms to pass through the Waynoka area. Some were expected to be server and there was even a tornado indicated by radar. I ended up leaving Thursday morning around 6:30am and getting there about 10:00am. Spcled1 and Drakman were already there. By 12:00am all campgrounds were full both north and south. People were parked on top of each other. At times there were as many as 30 people waiting to get through the gate out into the dunes. It was fall break for most of the schools in Oklahoma and the weather was supposed to be great. It was great, sunshine and 68-72 degrees during the day and 45-50 at night. No rain from Thursday on, at least till Saturday when I left. Spcled1 was planning on having his new 2 seater for the trip and had gone to Nebraska to pick it up but there were problems with a leaking tranny and some clogged injectors. So he came with his wife and quads. Drakman had a new, to me, bright red trailer. He was parked next to a family that had 2 beautiful pilots’ one long travel and one regular and one that they had left at home. There were at least 2 to 3 more pilots. The sand was very wet and packed and rougher than anything I have every seen. I spent most of my time in the trails. The FL250 ran flawlessly and I had a wonderful time in the trails. I am not very good at writing trip reports but I will get better.

I got back last nite.

While out riding, I once noticed that I felt like I was on a ant hill, and I was one of the ants.

The weather was kinda cool, rained a bit, but not much wind, so the sand was pretty rough, and the dunes were really worn down.

Monday was the best day, as it came up sunny and the place was nearly deserted.

Eddy's friends brought some real hot machines. Duane had the blown LS1, I once made the mistake of getting behind him at the top of a dune, he threw about a cubic yard of sand on me, didn't follow him over the top after that. Bill had the maroon machine, Sonic sand car with a 1300cc Hayabusa, really fast and sounded great. Mark had a Quadracer with an 1100cc crotch rocket Engine, basically set up for drag racing, but looked like it was fairly decent for regular riding. Eddy is waiting for a two seater with a Hayabusa in it, should be pretty hot when he gets it.

I marked a first for me, no breakdowns, no trashed belts, and only got stuck once, last ride of the last day.

Gas down there was around 225, problem for me was that diesel ranged from 329 to 379!! On the way back, I noticed that the place in Kansas that I had to pay 379 was down to 329, something is ALL WRONG with that kind of a price swing, these bandits gotta be making a fortune.

High fuel prices were probably due to hurricane Wilma, they thought it was going to
destroy the worlds only source for diesel fuel and they were selling you the last
few gallons known to man.

OR they raised the price because their is nobody to stop them, your only defence
is adding a 200+ gallon tankin the back of the truck and filling it up when you
find it cheap.

Glad to see your trip was mechanically uneventful.

You get a different trailer heard someone mention "Drakmans red trailer"

Still have the "Jerry Rig" ?
