any binding of the u-joints with the new shocks

Have not checked yet, as I had smaller bolts, which let it drop farther out. The shock is about 1/2" longer than the stockers. Putting limiting straps on it, to prevent pulling the shock apart, like the stocker.

WARNING!

Don't use limit straps to keep the U joint from binding if the shock is too long. Limit straps stretch!

A new shock mount is being created that moves the shock up and will give even more room = less u-joint stress.
I will post updates, as it comes along.

? How much stroke / travel do you have with that New Shock. The reason I am asking if the stoke is close or the same as the old stock shock
with the shock moved up you might have major problems with the frame bottom out If the shocks aren't sprung and valved right.

Why I asking this when I fitted my YSS shocks they were 1/2 longer Eye to eye but had a extra 3/4" travel
I had to adjust the toe in to stop binding on the Uni joints under full compression but just enough so the
Uni joint would not bind on full droop (( unsprung weight )) it is a fine line.

Also looking at the last pic is the top bolt pressing hard onto the body / top of the shock as it need to be able to move
on the Eye of the shock if so you will snap bolts or the head of the shock

The shocks have about 1/2" more travel and thank you for the heads up on the toe adjustment. I will look into it.
I am using different washers, the others were for mock up, and the top heim now has some room to swivel.

Trip out to Ocotillo Wells. Second video, I pushed it a little more. Drove around for about 3 hours with no problem. After a flat tire, a pull apart rear shock and several fouled plugs. It was great to get some actual quality riding time. I had so much fun and it makes the work all worth it.

Looks like a good time glad to see your up and running again, whats up with the fouled plugs? Any excessive smoke or sputtering at a certain rpm ?

I was using a sub-part 2 stroke oil, Valvoline for lawn equipment upon further review of the label. Using Honda HP2 now and it is running like a champ.

Just got the rear shocks rebuilt and now they are amazing. Some adjustment still needed on the preload adjuster. I think I set it up a little hard and was too lazy to change it in the dirt, with a bottle jack. So I took the odyssey out to Lucerne last night. Went pretty well other than finding a 2ft deep 5 foot wide ditch in the middle of the night. Lights were focused in the distance as I came around a corner and hit the front bumper on the far side of the ditch. Before I knew it I was looking at dirt and the buggy was sitting on the front two bars of the rollcage. Then fell to the side when I was getting out. I was very happy for the harnesses and beard seats. Needless to say, adrenaline was pumping and did not sleep much. Everything seems to be working correctly and just cosmetic damage. Not more pretty red fenders, little damaged now.

What year/model were the shocks out of. Did they change anything when they rebuilt them?

Nice upgrade over the stockers?

The shocks on the rear of the odyssey are front shocks off a '99 Polaris XCR 440 snowmobile. I had them rebuild. They are awesome, but do not quite fit in the stock location. A tad long, about 1/2".

I am sure you are talking about the rear shocks, but the front ones are off a trx425. I have not rebuilt them.

Seems like the rear isn't worth screwing around with. I have wanted the front changed to A-arms and I like the stance it gave your machine.

Was looking at your rear shock set up. Question: You seem to have a lot of adjustment left on the spring preload so what I want to know is why didn't you try to cut 1/2" off of the shock shaft and rethread the end to screw on the head ?? Then bring back the preload to accommodate. That's a lot of work to redo the shock mount because the shock is 1/2" to long. Just curious.

If you're not needing to screw around with the rear then you must be running works shocks already.

If not, then you have no idea what you are missing out on. The weakest point in the Ody's suspension is the rock hard rear Showa Pogo Sticks, that Honda used as a shock.

Best of luck... Win or loose you are out there having fun! I'm jealous, nothing like that back here on the east coast.
Someone prove me wrong. :-)
