Thanks to the site I was able to correct the last issue I had. Now I have a few more questions.
With the rear of the oddy jacked up should there be any play in the axles? I have some play on the left side axle where it mounts to the transmission, not a lot but enough to feel it. It does not do it with the tires on the ground. Not sure if it is the u joint? I ordered new u joints from Northern Drive Train (PTI-9951-22). It says they are engineered not to brake. Anyone ever use them? How hard is it to replace the u joints on a scale of 1-10.
Are the wheel bearings in the front and rear pressed in or do they just slide in and out?
Lets take these one at a time:
1) With the rear of the oddy jacked up should there be any play in the axles?
You are not very specific about what you mean by "play". If you mean play between the trans output shaft and the axel then yes there is play. All three of my FL350's had play. The real question is what do the splines look like ?? Also replace the bolts on these axels regularly. I say once a year. The nut is just a jam nut and the bolts are threaded into the yoke. The splines must also be greased well.
2) Not sure if it is the u joint?
U-joints are checked by removing the axel and rotating the joints by hand. Feel any tight spots ??

Those are the ones I use also.
4) How hard is it to replace the u joints on a scale of 1-10
In my opinion it depends on your skill and what kind of tools you have. It's a 1 if you got a torch and a 20mm reamer. It's a 10 if you don't. You must run a reamer through the yokes and if you don't then sometimes you damage the cups putting it all back together. Then you blow another joint in short order.
