Well slowly going to start the rebuild on the death machine. Lots of work on this thing. Almost everything bent, cracked or twisted. Cut apart the bent top cage for useable pieces today while I wait for the guy to bend new roll cage tube.

File comment: This is what happens to an oddy when you crash it hard at about 55 mph.

This was the crash that broke my back.
The machine I rebuilt was the spare I had bought for parts. It was in really rough shape mechanically.
It is my primary machine now.
The machine above still has a slight twist in the frame (1/4") but that is as close to straight as I could get it. A few tubes have to be welded up as they got cracked in the crash. I will rebuild this thing but it will take time. The bent rear swing arm I repaired and posted a few days ago is the one off of this machine.

Man I got real lucky.
I have no issues at all. No pain issues No sensory issue No motor (( Internal Combustion Engine ? )) issues.
When I was in the hospital all they seemed to be interested in was nerve damage.
It seemed like the doctors and nurses were just blowing me off when they found out there was no nerve damage, but they did check me every day. I was angry at first because I wanted more attention but what I found out later was that if there is no nerve damage, your good. They were just busy with people that had real medical issues LOL. There were so many people in there that they were piled up down every hallway. Beds every where. It was a long weekend when this happened. What a crazy place on a long weekend.

Just saw these pictures that is one of the most wicked crashes I've seen. Broken back and no issues, someone was watching out for you! Glad you're okay - Will be cool to see the build, thanks for sharing.

Mike

Well I got the pipes bent today so I can start on the rebuild now.
This will take time as I am in no hurry to do it.
I measured that frame again and it still has 5/16" twist no matter how many times I measure it or look at it :-) .
Going to finish the front wheel offset project I started the other week first. They still need painting and new holes drilled for the valve stem. Also a bit more welding.

Doing a little bit on it the last couple of days.
The closer I look at it the scarier that crash seems to be. Several frame cracks I got to weld up. All the heat marks you see on those pipes is because they were bent. Gona put this thing together as cheap as I can. I guess I could buy more pipes and make new, maybe down the road I will, not now.

Yes
I went with 1/8 wall instead of the Honda 1/16th
Hope I don't ever need it again. That would have been an awesome video from the side lines. Inside all you would have seen was sky dirt sky dirt sky dirt sky dirt and the feeling of someone punching you in the face when my helmet exploded inside when my head hit the ground.

I guess if I ever decide to sell it I could say it has an upgraded chassis :-) . I will neglect to tell them it still has a 1/4" twist. If it don't start I guess I will just say the carb needs to be cleaned :-) . I will neglect to tell them it is on its last bore :-) . I think that's how craiglist works.

This is a slow go.
Had to make a new down tube because the other one was so badly bent. Tried to straighten it with the torch but no go. Also with that twist in the chassis the new tubes just didn't mate up to the original tubes perfectly so that one new down tube I made is 5/16" longer. Ugly rebuild.

It's a dune buggy, not an f1 car. Can't imagine a 1/4 inch would make any difference in the dirt.

That's kind of my thoughts on rebuilding this machine.
The 1/4" may make a difference but I bet I wouldn't notice it.

That was some serious force to bend that tubing like that. Glad you made it out.

Which brings me to this.

You should name it Angel.

You tried to kill yourself, but she saved you.

Just a thought.

LMFAO right now.
I am going to give that one some thought.
Perhaps Angel killer ----------- my Angel gave up her life for me.
Really hard to describe that crash and how violent it was. Words don't do it justice.
